It looks like a xl500 is a souped up xl12.74 cc compared to 54cc/58cc
I have a couple of parts xl 76's which look to have the same cyl as your xl 103.
Are you willing to part with one of them if the cylinder is the same?

Piston is scrored, cylinder is scored and the chrome is coming off. I think I have a piston. Mainly I need the cylinder, top handle and the top handle bracket.
From what i see the XL 76 is the same except it's red and the handles are black

Never seen one of these Tim, Must be a Terry saw only.
Looks to be in excellent shape. Very nice.

It is a Terry saw. Those boxy 4 port mufflers are always a dead give away. It is in nice shape. There are machining marks still on the piston. I see two others on Magnus' site but that's it. Nor sure if they are rare or not. Some of the antivibe parts are sand cast.
I don't think there is a US made equivalent. A VI 125 is similar but the rear handle set up is different.

Could you post a picture,of that chain please? Does it cut like milling chain or regular? Is it square or round and chisel or semi chisel? The reason I ask is that type chain might be fun to run on my Titan ER.
Sorry I took so long.

When you get tired of the Whiz let me know.
These older saws got me hooked. The only new saw I have left is my ported 395 lol. Anyone know the best way to get the clutch off a 750? This one needs new springs. Also I need to find a bar big enough for it lol

I take the shoes out and have this old automotive special tool that slips between the spiders. I've got a bunch of large sockets that I took a die grinder to to get the spacing and number of lugs to fit the clutches on other saws. Just for curiosity I used my dial-type torque wrench to check the breakaway torque on one 750 and it was right at 100 ft lbs to break loose. They're only supposed to be installed at 180 in.lbs. but tend to get much tighter with use. There's a hole in the bottom to insert a 3/16 drill bit into to lock the flywheel.

is the XL-500 a decent saw. I haven't came across one ever.

Much more power than an XL-12, more than SXL. It was made less than 2 years in '65 and '66 so they are hard to come by. With the extra power they seem to have worn out faster. The factory did offer parts for a while to upgrade the crank and rod to a bigger rod bearing, same as the SXL with 31 rollers. I just finished upgrading my XL-500 to the later parts, not because I expect to wear it out, just because.

Hey all you homelite lovers! I picked these two units up for 35 bucks and was curious what you can tell me about them! The EZ is in beautiful shape, the 330 needs fuel and oil caps but that's all I can see thus far.

I don't know if you guys made a deal but,

Matthew,

The pilot on you cylinder, which fits down into the case could have a 1-15/16" or 2" OD.

You would have to measure that to know if the 76 cylinder will fit your saw. The 76 cylinders don't come equipped for a decompression valve which you have on your 103.
The XL-76's have a 2" pilot and a 1.81" bore. They use the same piston as a super XL.
