Has the 661 been proven like the 066/660?

So to get a 661 to run right you have to pay for a mtronic saw, then buy a carb and other parts for it? Thinking maybe this is why the 395 out sells them.

It's almost unforgivable for a pro saw let alone a flagship pro saw to be released then re-released and still be messing pro fallers around, costing them (and many frustrated dealers I might add) time and money. Here, I know quite a few guys that felt quite burnt with their 661 purchases and the ensuing problems. Husky did very nicely from it. When the problems are just a memory and the 661 is a consistently reliable saw with a proven history of being so, rather than the skitzo wild child reputation it has amongst many guys I know here, then it'll be interesting to see how many go back to it rather than stick with their 390/5's.

logging groups on facebook are full of guys complaining about autotune/mtronic issues and couple guys seem to keep pretty busy converting them to 66 carb/ignition modules to get away from it. Last i heard some guys were even trying to get the forest service to approve carb swapped 661's for fire service, from my understanding currently its against the rules to run a saw thats been modified in any way.

That's the reason I only have carb saws yet, and stihls new 462 is mtronic as well, mistake imo.

The 462 will be the first M-Tron Version II. I'll bet it runs flawlessly.

My 362 C (an early one, if fact the first one my dealer sold) is one of my favorite saws to run. I like not needing a little screw driver. If it ever gets hard to start in hot weather, just pull the trigger, then the recoil (they do not have a fast idle setting).

IMO, once you know your saw, it is more reliable than most. It may take some time to adjust to mods, but it does.

Maybe when version V comes out they will have it sorted out, I will just keep my little orange screw driver.

You guys just keep selling those silly carb saws and I will keep buying them, I like vintage saws, if anything I want older models, I am just a purist I guess. To each there own.

I'm not a pro faller, but I have worked this one a lot. I've never experienced any problems what so ever stock or ported. Not knocking carbs, I like them too. Just saying, I think Stihl has the mtronic dialed in now.

That saw looks very healthy! Enjoy!
