Great, thanks. I have no budget other than to buy the chemicals and tools and sure don't have time to do anything frame off. If I could even just arrest the decay for a few years until I can do it frame off that would be fine. When I bought the truck in 2004 I did undercoat the bottom sheet metal really well, and that has mostly held up. I guess I just never considered that the heavy frame and chassis members could get eaten away so badly.

I think it may be wise to start this project in the early spring, it doesn't seem smart to immediately expose my work to road salt. POR has kits for about 30 bux on Amazon, I guess I would get one of those to start.

Even just knocking off the loose scale will help substantially. The loose stuff acts like a sponge and keeps all the moisture and salt on the metal.

Steve’s bang on, if you’re just looking to stop it scrape it down to your fancy, brush on the tremclad then hose it down in oil undercoat
If taking down to shiny bare steel don’t use POR-15
Oil undercoat like rust check or fluid film is fantastic
That rubberized undercoat is garbage, seen a lot of cars where it’s carpet and that stuff with a rust sandwhich in between

Start shopping for the same truck in a rust free area.

Talking about rust, I'm looking at opinions. My Tommy Gate lift gate is getting pretty bad for rust, I will need to get pictures today. To replace just the platform is in the $550 range and can't remember what the cost of a new one is but that goes against my nature. There is a person with two on FBMP and is asking $300, I would guess each. Here is the only picture they have posted but looks the same as mine with only the surface rust. I know rust can be from the inside out so I would guess there is more inside the channels and joints.
Would you look at something like this and if so, what would you use to try and strip the rust to prolong it's life? If I was a welder I could look at sourcing materials to build one, but that is way out of my league. Any input would be appreciated and thank you in advance for your advice. 383969778_7001986249851473_503545667750004776_n.jpg

That's a damn nice truck.
Thank you sir, I got lucky when I found this truck. Today I got a few more non-original parts set up on the truck. All I have left to do is weld on some shock mounts, wait for a new crankshaft pulley and oem Ford steering box to show up, and re-assemble the whole thing.

I pulled the very, very old battery out of the IH and put some acetone/atf in the cylinders, but I'm not optimistic about it after seeing how one of the plugs looked. It'll eventually get a 7.3 or 6.9l, but I was kinda hoping I could make the original motor run. IMG_5592.jpegIMG_5598.jpegIMG_5599.jpeg

Last week I was vacuuming the floors in the Derge for the first time in 6+ months and I noticed an oil stain on the floor. I'm guessing it's been leaking for at least a year based on the crud stuck to the oil, but regardless I swapped it out. Who'da thunk after 20+ years and 29*,*** thousand miles coupled with 10 years of sitting the original hydroboost would fail/leak?

Try a splash of WD40 and then rub in some cheap dollar store hand lotion till it mixes. Wipe off with paper towels.
Shampoo is usually easy to find and tends to clean hands fairly well, often better than dish detergent. Again cheaper tends to work better as it's usually more astringent.

Plus the look on your lady friends face, over her shampoo getting grease off of your hands, can be priceless.

The only hand cleaner I've seen that would really get you clean without brushing was sold on the Snappy truck, our dealer always handed it out at Christmas. It was like gritty mud but worked awesome.
