For a small saw you Mebbe should think a least lil bit more on the small side like a .270...
270 launches a 150 grain pull at 2900 fps. A 308 launches a 150 at 2700. The sectional density of the 270 beats the 308 all day everyday. Sorry, had to do it!

I used to launch 168's out of my 7mm at 3050... that would punch clean through 1/2" mild steel at 200 yards. I miss that rifle

They pretty much all punch through mild steel at 200. Except 556, unless you use m855's. My 270 with 130's go through 1/2 at 300. 308 175 smk's do it too. Velocity is almost king, sectional density is huge.

I agree 100%. I stopped shooting mild steel once I learned what AR500 was haha.

Now that we're posting gun stuff... LOL
30-06 on the left, 300BSM on the right. It's a necked down blown out 416 Rigby. Shoots a 230 grain pill at 3400fps. BSM stands for "big sky magnum". Yes, I Built it for the big sky country.

I'd imagine the throat life would be pretty short, with case capacity like that. Still, that's an impressive wildcat! Long slug like that must have a great BC...

Is that a .300 win mag? I don't see a belt on the head

You would be correct. Very good BC. I am going to switch to the 250 A-tip from Hornady. It has a g1 of .878 and g7 of .442..

136 grains of powder, so, you are correct in calling it a barrel burner.

Good eye!!! You are correct. That's not a 300 win. But a 30-06.. Thanks!!

My shoulder hurt just looking at that. Muzzle brake required for me with that one. Lol
