The Bahcos I used have been good. That's good price at the link you shared. As for Lee Valley I only ever browse there. Nice tools there but spendy.

Yeh. Lee Valley is pretty good at having things you "need" that no one else carries and taking a little extra for it. I believe they've got Bahcos individual for around $15.

. Never occurred to me they could be different dimensions. When I switched files to touch up a chain it did take a lot more work than it should have.
The old mantra is true, for the most part, you get what you pay for - and Vallorbe, Pferd, Bacho, etc have much better quality control/consistency in their manufacturing process…

Some measurements of the Forester file’s side cutting bevels - lots of variation in the two different ones I measured. As a comparison, I also measured a Vallorbe 2279 that I had on the bench - all of those side bevels were the exact same width…

First Forester file -

Crazy prices. I still have a good dozen or so Bahco, but abandoned square filing before going back to round files. I can round file with my eyes closed and the square filing improvement just wasn't worth it.
