I think it's gonna be a screamer, I've done a few on this platform and all respond well. I'm loving these threads by the way.

I'm about to port a 353 I'm building as well. My plan is to go 65% of the bore on the exhaust, possibly square up the intake and some extensive work on the transfers. Randy posted a pic of a 353 cylinder in the "what's on your bench" thread. I plan to try to duplicate what he did as best I can without cutting the base/squish or changing port timing.

Thanks for the vid. Very helpful.
I like your idea of using the mandrel as a template.

Also my cylinder has a chip out of the nicasil coating on the intake. You think it will hurt anything. Guess thats what i get for getting a off brand cylinder and piston.

just wondering if it would benefit to round off where the scribe is pointing. you can see where the imprint is from the case. to me this would improve air flow. whats your thoughts?

you can't get it to match, but you can improve it

put this in another thread.
you can see how much was removed and how much more it opened.

on your measurement. the port width measurement needs to be across the chord. the way scott does it that is what he gets.

when you transfer to paper and lay it flat you get a different measurement. lay the paper down on the piston so it gets the curve then measure.

Ya. Its a hutzle pisyon cylinder. It has never had high compression only about 140. Might do a gasket drlete to try and boost it up a little.

I measured bore, then put peice of paper in cylinder to match curve and traced port then pulled paper out and put it around piston to see where it was on it, added my 65% then layed paper back on piston to check. Does that sound about rite?
