gonna try my first shot at porting. Whats a good start. I dont plan on changing timing would like to keep it simple. (For now)
I know it would be a little advance for me but wanna put a degree wheel on to get a better understanding of your numbers you guys talk about and what they mean.

Maybe start with gasket delete and a muffler mod?

Trying to figure my max width i could go on exhaust port. If bore is 1.774 i multiply it by 0.70 and get 1.2418.

So 1.2418 should be my max 70 percent. This dont mean i gotta try and go this wide.

The pic shows the stock port opening with a line on either side to show my max i could open it to.

I shoot for 65% on work saws, 70% on race saws, if I can give it good shape and the skirt is wide enough
How do you determine if skirt is wide enough. if skirt not wide enough do you go by a percentage of the skirt

Sorry for the dumb question and hope reusing your pic was ok.

So you measure 50 though from the straight part of piston(virticle edge) for work saw.

And also good to know a scribe will not hurt i used a pencil.

I also mark the port on my sanding mandrel, here you can see how much I changed the exhaust port

from the scribe line to the edge of the piston skirt, or 65% on a full circle piston

that top ring on your piston, would the ring end be a problem. just curious if it would be too close to the edge of port opening and be a snag issue.

I traced the port on paper and drew out about 64ish percent cylinder bore. Let me know what ya think of the shape. Would this work?
