Hauled home a load we cut last fall.

I plan to stack totes around the wood pad this year and pile loose stuff in the center. The last couple years I’ve been stacking a couple rows around the outside and this seems like less work. Plus I can get quite a bit more wood on the pad this way. I should be able to get ~16 cord in the totes and another 10-12 in the middle depending on how high I pile it in there. The short half tote is full of cedar chunks I intend to run through my bandsaw in the wood shop to make cedar things for Mama Bear to do crafty things with.

I have a buddy that’s clearing out a few fence lines and asked if I wanted the wood. But of course! This is the third load like this of I’m not sure how many but a bunch. Even though it’s crappy, I can’t say no to that especially when he’s loading it and bringing it here.

Free boiler wood is the best. Boilers don’t care what they burn. We take all the free logs we can get.

Agreed !! I brought that trailer last spring and he has put 10x the miles on it than I have.

You anywhere near me ?

I got the above load all cut up today. I wanted to see how much the trailer holds. I’ll know better when I get the big stuff split tomorrow but I’m gonna say it’s a healthy 1.5 cord but not 2. I put three tanks through the 026 and two through the MS250. Both great little saws.

I got 10 free cords of this stuff in piles from the city. Various elm, cottonwood, and other junk western “hardwood.” There aren’t a lot of options out here for firewood besides doug fir and pine, so somebody will buy it split and delivered. The 272xp that I have for sale was trying to convince me to keep it… 😅

More work today with the 562xp. Not bad for two hours of sawing after work. I should add that this is going on two cords of wood now with the Duke’s chain, with just one light sharpening. It holds its edge very well.IMG_0106.jpegIMG_0108.jpeg

I’ve been very fortunate this year. This is my 3rd bush lot this year, logged last summer lots of ash, sugar maple and beech. Lots of dead/ diseased tree’s still standing but I just want to get things cleaned up first
One part I’ll have to come back to as the turkeys have eggs laying in the amongst some tops.
Usually run my ported 461’s but in the small stuff the 400 is a good little runner, I already own it so might as well get the hours on it.

Good score of free Crabapple today, and a Regular Apple tree to cut tomorrow!
Never had crabapple before, but if its anything like Apple I'll be happy.. a few pieces had a little rot but they'll just go to my step-dad's outdoor boiler, gotta love the smell of Apple.20250531_180218.jpg

No doubt! A place about 1/2 hour away gave them out for free on 2 separate occasions and I jumped at the opportunity.
Oh wow I bet! those are the good ones with the Aluminum reinforcements in them and everything NICE!
I actually paid $5/ea for a bunch of them last year and I thought I got a good deal, but you seriously made out with that one.

How many cords do y’all have stacked and drying? I have about 20 now and still have dead standing trees to take down, we are burning about 3-4 cords in the winter.
Well last I checked I've stacked about 25 for myself and am working on 9-10 or so for my step-dad's outdoor boiler, we each burn about 10 cord per winter.. those boilers aren't picky so he gets everything that I don't keep for myself: partially rotten pieces or lesser species stuff like that.. it works out cause he gets free heat and I get an easy way to dispose of anything I don't want.
I'll keep cutting/stacking until I run out of room or free wood to pick-up locally. 👍

I'm just over 20 for myself and have over 6 for my aging parents. Dad is 80 so I pretty much do most of the labor except for stacking.
