Answered an FBM ad, a person who had a silver maple removed from a backyard but kept some for a friend of Her's. Of course they never came to get it so she posted it with expectations of needing to pay to get rid of it. Plan was for me to pick it up this morning but she came back that she was giving it to a wood carver. No problem on my end as you win some and loose some. In the end he never responded so it was mine for the taking. Looking on Google I planned my route from the backyard but ended up a fence was in the way (maybe the street view was taken while the tree company was working on it) so had to deal with this stupid bush. Anyway easy score plus she insisted I take a little something for my time. Nice to get some solid shoulder season wood, something that I'm short of.
Got done bringing home a nice FBM score today, a nice 90+yr old Apple tree that was 90-95% good solid wood and probably close to a cord all together, that and 2wks ago from same place took a smaller yet similar aged Crabapple down.. pretty happy with this one. Just had to drop it for them and pile up the branches in backyard.
I buried the 242 into a huge elm trunk with an 18” bar and it kept chugging. I don’t know about other 242’s though, as this one has a KS cylinder with around 200psi of compression stock.
Got 3 loads out of the bush this morning, in a bit of a race to get as much out as I can before the beans start to sprout.
Lots of beech, hard maple and white ash.
Mom's apple from the first trip and brother's hackberry limb split and stacked, 1-tote each. Most likely I will see if anyone is interested in purchasing the crabapple for their smoker.
