Got the 18.5 cord load of birch I received a few months ago down under half to go.

Well the birch pile got topped up with 17 cords...daughter home from college helped buck some wood today! I have probably close to 10 cords waiting to be split with another 25 to buck and split. Be a loooooong winter. Picked up about 25 pallets today to stack it on once we get splitting!

Break out the long bar and go at em. If the long bar won't just get pinched by the logs shifting.

For that diameter of wood I’d wonder about building a saw buck and throwing the logs on. Build one like a bunch of H’s and keep the crossers pretty close to cut length.
Logs look like they’re done up for pulp wood?

Processed a white oak for my dad.

Concern for dead limbs falling, I got outta there quick. Could have thinned the holding wood more but down it went.

The kids helped get this little pile worked up. We don’t need any more right now, but I can’t stand to see “easy” wood go to waste. Our plan was to level this area off and build on to the shed so we quit using it for firewood storage. We didn’t get to it this year so I’ll stack it here to dry some before it goes to the shed.

It was a wonderful day to have heated handles! 26 Fahrenheit (-3) but a brisk north wind. Getting red oak ready for it’s 3 summer cure.

Too windy today to split We have some gusts reaching 50mph. *s-wordty day so I’m in the shop. I did split that little bit just to make sure all systems go. That truck was loaded from one tree

The church we go to asked if I wanted to take some big dead trees down in the valley behind church and I said why yes of course !! All nice large red and white oaks.

Pops and I got after three of them today. The first was the largest with my 32” bar not quite getting all the way through. Dang good sized trees in our area.


Doesn’t look like much but we got 3 of the 9 down and got the stuff cut up that doesn’t need to be split. I cut the big stuff into 8-1/2’ chunks to be bandsaw cut into some fantastic lumber by a buddy. Pretty stoked about that.


Tomorrow’s project is to get it all home and piled up. Gonna bring the tractor, dump wagon and skiddy and make quick work of it. I hope

Hooked the skid loader trailer behind the little red dump wagon and headed to town.


Mama Bear and the little people posse came to help !!


Load one of bigger chunks.


Load two had the smaller stuff that didn’t need to be split.


Loads three and four had the brush and the rest of the big chunks.

Bandsaw wood on the left, firewood on the right. Not a bad haul for the time it took. 6 more trees like this need to come down and they’re almost all larger than the three we did already. Can’t complain about that !

All but a very little bit of this was in the one load. I sure do like this little red wagon !!


All cleaned up and you’d never know we were here if the stumps weren’t still there.
