I love the smell of oak burning in the wood stove. Mostly what my grandpa had in northern Arkansas....can't recall if it was red, white or some other species of oak.
Should keep you and yours nice and toasty this winter.
I still have a bunch of logs, to process IMG_2714.jpegIMG_2089.jpeg

More tree service drop offs this morning. Asked them why they’re working on a Sunday and the one guy looked at the other and said “WTF it’s Sunday !? No way !!” Checked his phone and got instantly pissed lol. They both legit thought it was Monday already. I told them Monday was a holiday so they’d still be screwed and they started laughing. We made a few beers disappear and now I’m done for the day as I’m full of beer already lol.

Got permission from the neighbor to take a bunch of the elm I helped him buck up last fall, so I went and loaded the trailer this morning. I manged to beat the rain, so I'm calling it a win
Gotta love the ol’ H !! An H was the first tractor my Grandpa purchased new in ‘41. Still have it and use it often. I’d love to know how many hours are on the ol’ girl as it’s seen regular use since new.

My H is a 1940, still in her work clothes. I picked it up last year to tinker with and eventually restore. The stories old iron could tell... I wish I could hear them. The new stuff is faster and more efficient, but they just lack the soul of a happy old tractor.

Yesterday, we used the H and that same trailer as a "chip trailer" by adding some old junk plywood to make some sides. I should have taken more pictures as I was assisting the neighbor with chipping brush. All I have is the "after" picture of the woodchips from our little homesteads

Is that an H or an M?

If I had read one more post I would have known. Lol. I would love an H or an M.

Another load split and stacked. Couple more ought to do it. Holds about 10 cords stuffed to the rafters...closer to 9 after it dries.

Switched gears and moved some dirt yesterday. Future sawmill shed site. IMG_20240526_185855356.jpg

Using the lawnmower to hold logs while I slice it up was a real treat today. I ran three tanks through the 066 and am not even a little bit sore !!
IMG_1368.jpeg

I built a little carrier deal that fits in a receiver hitch and set the saws and supplies on it so I wasn’t leaving them in the dirt and wouldn’t back over them. It worked very well !! It was a nice height fueling platform and I touched up the chain on it while sitting on the ground. That needs some attention but overall it was a great addition to the wood cutting process today.

The basement is getting full. Getting to be time to get the splitter hooked up and go to town on this pile !!

Started on hauling the stuff by dad’s place to my place. This is the first load of cut up stuff I’ve had in the little red wagon.
IMG_1393.jpeg

I dumped it on a strip of concrete we used to put an ag bag on. Can’t ask for much nicer than this !!
IMG_1394.jpeg

Goodness this thing is a cavern. I know there was 2.5 cord on the pile when we started and about 3/4 of it is now in the wagon. Looks like we’re starting a Westfield auger dealership in the background 😂
