Indiana beech trees are excellent for firewood, but nowadays they might be an endangered species. Grandpa had a monster beech growing in his front yard, I will never forget that tree. Fir would not hold a candle to it.

"All firewood has about the same BTU per pound. Non resinous wood has around 8000 to 8500 BTU per pound, resinous wood has around 8600 to 9700 BTU per pound. Less dense softwoods have less BTU per cord than more dense hardwood but they also weigh less per cord. Resinous wood has more BTU per pound because the resins have more BTU per pound than wood fiber has" From Firewood resource

I got a little this morning. Three dead standing oak trees. I use my XS 550xp for the limbs and my newest scarr 572XP for the trunks. Everything was blocked up to 26" for a owb.

I had some luck with putting my name on a list with getchipdrop.com. I must have received 5-6 dump trailers of firewood logs in the last 2 years that way. Alot of tree guys are excited to find a place to unload for free!
Thanks for mentioning that site, I put my name on just in case I could get lucky.. never heard of that before. But likely won't get any as I'm out in the country somewhat. But it was worth a shot so thanks for mentioning it

I tried chip drop for a while, even offered to add money, but no bites. I guess it is easy to get rid of chips and logs around here. I wanted the chips.

I don’t know if you guys have but all all the local tree guys if you have a easy accessible spot to dump you will get someone to bite…hell they have to pay to dump so free really makes them think about it, exspecially if your close…
