I got more of the tree line blocked up this morning. I used my XS 4350, XS 550xpg, scarr 550xpg and my Stump Shot 572XP with a 28" bar for the bigger stuff.

Awesome day out so went out to split for a few hours. Original plan was to split hackberry and maple that was cut earlier for the sell totes at Bunny's. Not sure at what point I decided to bring it home so switched gears and split up the mulberry that I picked up this summer. Threw a tote on top as I only have one empty at the house. Hope everyone had as good of a day as I did.20231217_150313.jpg20231217_150325.jpg20231217_152100.jpg20231217_152110.jpg

After work today the brothers and myself went out to the tree line. They were going to load and haul out the rest of the firewood that I blocked up. They had cut down a bunch of trees for me to block up yesterday afternoon. I went out there to check out the trees I'll be cutting up this weekend. I took some pics. The pics are of load number 32. They figured that there was about 3 and a half more loads that I had blocked up on the ground to load up tonight.

@Wolverine Jason nice work, are those tarps holding up to wind/rain/snow?

Mine seem to fall apart after a few seasons, and I do buy the extra heavy duty ones.

Are you placing any flat boards or cushions to minimize the sharp edge contact?
I think dad just considers the tarps as consumables. He doesn’t mind the cost considering all the wood comes to him basically free. I think that one is 3-4 seasons old now. He doesn’t have a good alternative.

Got my son up and running last night.

Put in an insulated liner and all new inside piping this fall.

Did a couple tree removals yesterday. One was a honey locust, not sure what the other is, black locust, or elm. The big trunk is the tree I'm not sure about. The closest logs in the second picture are also from that tree.

Looks like Siberian Elm to me
I'm horrible at ID'ing trees, especially without seeing the leaves, but you're probably right. We don't have tons of variety in town here. Honey locust, black locust, cedar, or elm varieties, pretty much.

It didn't feel like locust when I cut it, but the tree was in pretty bad shape. So, I wasn't sure if it was just the fact it was mostly dead, or what.

The white stain & streak on the trunk is usually a good sign of Siberian Elm.

The dead limbs with no bark are indicative of Siberian Elm also.

Also that wood on those end cuts look chocolaty, which is also indicative of Siberian Elm.

I know 1 thing (well 2) about black locust. It is hard as hell, and the thorns make you think you are in hell. Found the 2nd item out the hard way cutting up limbs, and blindly grabbing them years ago.

Yes, and yes. I've had a honey locust thorn about 2, or 3 inches long shred the sidewall of a tire. They can be some nasty suckers, that's for sure. I have about 7 cords of black locust, I'll burn next winter.

Got it all unloaded and stacked in two totes today. Should be close to half cord of mulberry plus a partial tote of maple/hackberry.Maple hackberrytotal.jpgMulberry total side.jpgMulberrytotalfront.jpg
