I've had good luck with the Farmtech ones, both the ones that come with the kits, and replacements I've ordered in case I screw one up during assembly.

They used to come pre installed in the cases, with the bearings. Not sure if they still do, but that makes it easier to screw them up when assembling the case halves (especially the second half).

Several 440 and 660s that I use, and relatives and friends use have them. Even a pro firewood guy who uses the 660 hard every day loves it (but I told him he has to run Saber at 40:1, and he does). Good oil really helps!
Last two kits I got the seals were not installed. I have a bunch of spares in case I screw one up.

Question for you!
I saw your MMWS Cross cylinder head comparison to a OEM. Have you done the same with a Hyway big bore head?

I don't know the make of the 660 BB kit that I have, the customer got it, so no I have not.

I do not like the numbers on this one (except the Ex) ... Ex 97, Tr 132, In 92.

I think the intake is so bad because the BB piston skirts are shorter so they don't hit the case, and I think they adjusted the Tr accordingly, but I could be dead wrong.

The only thing I did to it was widen the Ex and bevel the edges, so we will see how it runs. The transfer ports look good to me.

My 880 kit came today. No seals installed! Which I’m glad because the bearings were as aspected….. needed to be cleaned!

fuel system looks much better then the 660 kit. I might leave it all Farmertech as long as it holds pressure and has vacume!

I
Pressured tested the saw today! PTO side leaked……… flywheel side was good to go.

lame seals I tell you, off course no one around sells 660 parts

I got news seals in the mail today!
I greased the crankshaft where it’s prone to get stuck and the seal went in pretty well!
Best part is she passes pressure and vacuum test. I am not a fan of the coke can method. Doesn't make sense to make the pinch point wider with added material. I get the concept that it
Is a smoother transition but still seems like if we take out time we can get the seals on easier without it.

Saw started only after a few pulls!

my son was so excited he made
Me bring it in the house!

now the 880 can get my full attention!
Yes my wife thinks I’m crazy..

These were not in kits, bought separately but the bar studs started stripping and the chain adjuster
Slide broke. First time I have seen that happen.

I often install the AM bar studs backwards (long side out) to reduce the chance of stripping. Seems if the nuts are already "fully on threads" before things start getting snug the strip a lot less often.

Interesting, I honestly didn’t know which way to put them. Put them long way out, thought short went into the motor head. They stripped further down. It was just cheap metal. White oxide, stuff taken from the furnace, basically left over crappy steel.

Im in South Cac'alacky , but I would think with large sections of Virginia being "salt of the earth " territory you can find a couple. With scrap metal fluctuations any recycling place could be the ticket.

I prefer OEM bar nuts since they seem to have slightly more threads (extending from one side to the other) while the cheap ones have a sunken area before the threads start, leaving little material to take all the pressure.

It sounded legit to me, and explains their worst quality. The one part I don't believe is the interchangeability of all parts, because if a kit doesn't fit together, why would it mesh with OEM? Having multiple manufacturers means there's less quality control on FT's part, and a great variety of errors which all add up to parts not fitting. I was suspicious that their cylinders may be coming from more than one factory.

But the saws only cost $35-100...If you buy 1000 at a time

I thought his opinions on Farmertec were on the money. It is not OEM, but you can get it to work.

I built a local Firewood Pro a Asian 660 with a Cross Cylinder and Meteor piston. It runs almost as strong as the one I had dynoed at 8.6 Hp.

They use it a lot, they run it hard, and they love it! At my insistence, they run it on Saber at 40:1 (and started running all their saws on that).

I feel the better oil mix compensates for slightly inferior bearings. The case, crank, bearings (except piston pin bearing), chain brake and clutch are all Farmertec.
