Checked it several times and its within a few degrees. I guess I could lower it a bit? Seems kinda high. Squish is .025-.027

Think I'm just going to try it as is. If it has issues I'll mess with lowering the intake a bit. I had to take quite a bit off the roof to get the port shape closer to even. This saw is going to be a Birthday present for my dad so, I want it to be a little bit impressive but, nothing too crazy. I'll advance timing a bit and probably put a dual port on that is fitted with spark screens. Chain tensioner is pretty bad on this one. The pocket for the spur gear was not machined into the case far enough. I got it close but, it still needs a little polishing to make it perfect.

Some of the cases were not opened enough, and some of the spur gears were just too large (I put them in a cordless drill and ran them against a file).

You would think by now they could get that right!

If that intake is 85* from TDC, that s/b more than enough.

I usually shoot for 82-83.

I think Something is not right about you intake numbers, I thought it was the same # each side of tdc
Or am I thinking rong :bash:

edit. It’s the way you say 97;abdc

that’s 180 -97 = 83 btdc so your “about 85* so you is prolly off about 1* each way

Looks like cylinder is not centered above crankshaft to get those numbers.

I am probably not 100% accurate. Within a few degrees is good enough for me. I got it as close to center as I possibly could on the wheel. Nobody commented about my rigging of the wheel. It is a crank installation tool and I couldn't find a bolt to mount the wheel onto the tool so, I used a decomp. 14 awg electrical wire for the pointer.

I have wondered about some saws not having the cylinder centered over the crank. A 026 and 028 I was checking numbers on always had differing numbers from when the piston was going up to going down. The intake and exhaust was usually only a degree off either way, but the transfers being lower were off by 2-3 each way. I started relying on forward rotation numbers and when they open more so than close.

I was getting these results both by finding center with a piston stopper and visually finding TDC.

Probably operator error. Mind you I was working on this with my 3 and 6 yr old boys running around and being crazy. Have several projects going on at the same time. My s10 is almost completely disassembled in my driveway. Its Getting all new suspension components and swapping engines, new clutch, cleaning and painting everything. Taking forever but, should be sweet when I get her finished.

Double checked and it is 97 and 83. So I was off two degrees on my intake closing.

Well got it together and went to fire it and it popped after 4 pulls. I look down and I have gas running down my leg and found the connection that goes to the tank was leaking. Pushed on it a little and it snapped clean off.... so I guess I need a fuel elbow. Luckily i got two kits this time so i have parts. Hahah already had to rob one of the buffers out of the other kit.

Well got my leak fixed. I got the saw running. I pulled on it until my shoulder felt like it was going to come out of socket and then I'm like "turn the idle up dummy" and she fired right up. She sounds really good so far. I shaved some off the key and put a good size hole through the baffle in the muffler. I used a "saw salvage" pop up piston. Things got tons of compression and you really have to pull it through or it will just pop the decomp and laugh at you. I went to go hang a bar on it and realized I screwed up and ordered two husky bars.... so I guess I'm either going to have to sell them or build a husky kit saw.

Be careful. Stihl large mount won’t fit on it either. It’s the medium mount 024-066 that fits. 3003 mount.
Yeah I ordered one off of Ebay that claims to fit the 066. I bought my first cross bar off of hls and I got the correct one but, I sold the saw and they are currently out of stock... I might go see if I can find a 24" Oregon bar or something just, so I can get it together and try it out.

So... the Ebay seller listed an item they didnt have so instead they are sending me a 30"
Not bad for $40

Just know with Cross or Archer pro bars you will want to run .058 chain after only a few tanks of run time.
They get a little sloppy do they? The holzforma bars any good? Might order a few on my next one. Having trouble finding any bars longer than 20" locally unless I go to the stihl dealer.
