Don’t forget the Dolmar 7900 if you want to spend less than 500i $.
Nyet, dealer support is a must for yours truly. I don't want to be forked if something happens to the saw 5 years from now. I'm pretty sure I could get any 390, 585, or 500i part I needed right from the dealer at that point, but 7900 parts not so much.

There's little to no support for most guys when it comes to dolmar/makita.

That matters for guys like Norm.
Yeah I know for Norm…but Woodslasher here fixes his stuffs. That being said, long term…yeah might be an issue depending on how big of a hurry a guy is in to get a saw fixed. That’s why I just got a spare. Course most of us have enough saws (every 10 ccs) that one can pinch hit while another is down.

I know, but I was bored and I saw 3 500i's and a few 585's sitting behind the counter at the saw shop. I picked up a 585, thought "damn that's heavy", and as I was setting it down a 500i whispered "Try me, I'm better". I tried to refuse but finally my curiosity got the better of me and I picked it up. It was lighter, sleeker, and more nimble in the hand but deep down I know I'll probably stick with the wide shouldered and solid swedish gals. For day-in day-out comfort and ease of repair I can handle some extra weight every now and again.

The yellow lowering device a friend built. For a tree service friend he has it was used for 25 years. Now given to me.
