I had mentioned that radiant ceiling heat came about during a period when natural gas was difficult to obtain .The electrical power companies had lowered rates for the use of radiant .It was less expensive to install than conventional forced air furnances .Factor in that rural heating systems were often fuel oil which certainly was not cheap .Radiant was pretty even heat plus individual rooms within the home could be set for different temperatures .Now comes the problem .radiant heats objects not the air .So sitting at the dining table your head could be nice and toasty but your feet were cold .
My home was built in the 80's with radiant which is now high efficient forced air propane .However the radiant as installed for the most part still works well but I have the temps set at 60 degrees so it never comes on .Due to the fact that cold affects me so my thermostat is set for 75 .I'm not a polar bear so a winter in North Dakota is out of the question .---but South Carolina sounds pretty good .
