Apparently they aren't that desirable. I think they are pretty cool.

I believe farmers used to use them as make shift compressors in the field.

There also a video on YouTube somewhere of a guy pulling only one plug and the saw starting. The guy stared in puzzlement at the saw running with seemingly no spark plug.

I had one once, wish I still did. (Story of my life) Cool saws, smooth runners, well built. But, like any of the collectibles, parts can be difficult to find at times. Especially the ignition. Because of this, I wouldn't pay a lot for one. I worry about starting them up, just to play, and something breaking.

I have a Echo and had a Deere that I just sold a few weeks back.

They are cool saws, very smooth running.

If it doesn't have spark it's about as valuable as scrap prices.

The Echo and John Deere twins are cool, but I think people are tricked into paying more for them than what they're really worth, just based on the whole twin cylinder concept.

Their performance as a 60cc saw is lackluster and they're heavier than most modern saws of equivalent displacement. I have two of the Echos now and a parts saw and I've owned two of the John Deeres in the past. The John Deere versions are usually bought by John Deere collectors rather than saw guys. As Ross said, the ignition components are really hard to come by since there's no other ignition module that crosses over. There were some NOS ones on Ebay a while back that were bringing top dollar.

I think I still have 2 of the Echo's and a JD one, plus one for parts. The yellow ones seem to bring far better money on e-Bay.

Do they use a single carb or dual?

I ran the one that Randy ported. With fresh square chain and all it was, as others have said, Ho Hum. The 562 he handed me next was in a different league. My dad was there and had always thought he wanted a twin and at one point wanted to buy one but got to the dealer and bought a 750EVL. He has never mentioned another twin since that day...got it all out of his system in three cookies.

That being said they are smooth as can be. I've seen someone let one idle sitting on a log...and it just sat there.

They are very smooth, but can't really compete with many other 60 cc saws. I will likely hang on to mine for a long while for the cool factor.

There were several present at this particular GTG.
