LOL; every time I want to hear one of my saw's I have to call someone over to start them

I just had a friends son over to start the 044 I can't get it to turn over yet after the last surgery so right now I which it had a Decomp; that removing the base gasket really jump up the compassion in that saw next the 026 will be losing it's gasket

yes mr Arnold Schwarzenegger , all others that use the decombs have pussy arms
Sorry couldn't help myself. Just messin with ya.

But you say that we have zero IQ because we removed the decomp? And that the engineers that designed them know what's best. So in the same breath then modifying a saw in any way is smart cuz the engineers and doctors know what is best and that's why they are built that way.

Well that doesn't work for my donkey brain. I will have to disagree with ya one this completely. Just because you don't think it's right doesn't mean it's that if Somone else takes the decomp out or modifys a saw the they are stupid and have no IQ

Agreed

I think if you dont have the physical ability, for whatever reason...... it doesn't matter what, to crank the saw without the decomp, then definitely use it.
The intention of the thread was not really "are they good or do they suck".
It was more based around how they work differently on stock saws and modified saws with higher compression, and if they are better off left in place or removed if you have the ability to crank the saw without one.
I wanted to know if high compression saws were ok to start without them or do they become crank busters.

I am definitely going to plug the 026 I never use it anyway, but I am considering leaving it on the 066 for now.
I know when I am swinging that saw I am cutting serious wood and after a while, the arms can get tired. The decomp could come in handy cause I am not a fan of drop starting an 066.
I might spend a day using my red light without the decomp and see how I go.

Heat saps your energy, cold seizes your joints and muscles so I am sure that they can also be handy when not cutting in mild comfortable weather.

Well you can be tough guys if you want ,if that makes you feel better .I myself at one time could lug 100 pound jack hammers up an 8 foot ladder and drive 1" round rods .Curl over 100 pounds with each arm .

So here I end up with a torn bicep in one arm and a torn rotater on the other. D handles and decomps are my friends at this stage of life .

IDK, I like them WHEN they work.

I find zero need for them in any saw under 70cc. But I did have a ported MS260 PRO with one that was nice to start with 2 fingers in any position. Nice in a tree for sure.

When Randy Built my 066, I specifically wanted one. The problem is that, even the Hoosky ones, pop off anyway after one compression cycle in a saw over 180psi. But it gets the movement going.

I guess it's an age thing. I remember having to move something heavy and jumping right in to show I could do it. Now I order the younger guys around and tell them how strong they are.

Its not just age.
You could have an injury, back problems, shoulder or joint issues, good point..... not able to sit the saw on the ground and hold it down to start it, low temperatures, whatever.
There are lots of reasons to use one, and they do work.

Myself and others here can start the saws without one, others cant due to reasons that make us humans and will affect us all one day or another, and that's why they are engineered into the saw. They make the higher compression pro saws usable to a larger audience and also, I believe easier to use in extreme conditions and when fatigued.

I have torn my right shoulder twice and my left once. I find that drop starting a saw is the easiest on ME. If I got a saw with a longer bar I'll rest the tip on a log. But I always drop start

Brewz: I agree that many things can keep us from running larger pro saws and decomps can make it easier. However my 066 doesn't have a decomp hole. I sure hope I don't get an injury down the road or something to keep me from starting my favorite saw.

When I first got my ms260, that was my fav go to saw. Then I purchased the beast off a AS member...

I had to practice my drop starting to bring life to that thing.

Now the 260 is hold in one hand, just pull with the other, so easy...

I handed my 066 red light with no decomp to my brother and told him tp pull the cors slow and feel the compression it has.
He said..... How the hell do you start that?

I put it on the floor and had it running 3 to 4 pulls cold, explaining yu need to be confident with the pull cord.
Anthingh less and you bust your arm and the pull rope

He didn't recommend that everyone remove them. He said he removed his own because of failure potential. Why do you give 2 *s-words about what somebody does to their own saw?
Personally, I leave mine in cuz there's a hole for it. And I haven't seen mine fail yet. But I see where a guy might want to eliminate the hassle, sooooo:roto2nuse:
