That's the future of it for sure - that and falling snags on the big fires and cutting the stuff that the machines absolutely cannot handle.
That is certainly the way it is moving...part of the reason I have moved to this. My shoulder/collarbone hasn’t bothered me at all since I started on Monday. Normally, I can tell it was injured, and I think about it several times a day when hand-falling. And it’ll be real nice to be in a cab when we get nasty weather. It’s nice now, actually, with the A/C and radio, lol.

Are you gonna put a microwave and a coffee pot in there? One of Graf's operators had his machine all decked out. He was making coffee in there for the rigging crew.

Good luck with the operating. I made it a couple months in a processor till I lost it, lol.
I think with tethering, were gonna be stuck with the worst of the worst ground anyways from here on out. At least it sure seemed like it for me today.....

I'm 37 and putting off a few surgeries, don't be a *pretty boy like me.
I don't know this ground is pretty nice. That's my strip I'm cutting currently 20200826_094118.jpg 20200826_094123.jpg

I wish. I do have a battery-powered coffee maker though. I’ll have to try the ol’ “lunch on the engine” trick.

That's what we normally do is chase oversize and cut pieces the machines don't get

Yeah the boss gets in there first with the mech show and gets all he can before we show up. Drives me insane when he adverses 200ft off the top of my strip, makes for a real nice beginning and end to the day.

@CLEARCUT 1st 500i ran way richer than mine.
My 500i runs like the Mtronics do ................flawless so far, and I was surprised how long the first tank lasted.
Mine is ported and still didnt seem that thirsty, but I also dont work in the same enviornment with a saw that you do

Thanks for the updates and opinions on the 500. I am in the market still, but the local saw shop still won’t sell me one. They now have 2 “demo” 500s to look at, but they tell me that they can’t even order one to sell yet. Now they say October maybe. Also, the first time I checked they told me $1300 for the R version with 28” es light. Now they say $1409 for the R with 28” standard bar. $60 more for the lightweight. Supply and demand or are they just blowing smoke?

I am also hearing that the 500 was released in Canada and then pulled from the shelves. I wonder what the issue was? I really hope this saw can be more than a footnote in saw history.

Mine is bone stock. I only have a handful of tanks through it. That said I haven’t noticed having to fuel up any more often than my 462. Again, Very different use case to CC.

My 462 arctic wrap uses less fuel than my 500i does, however my 462 is still stock, for now. Also, people have to keep in mind, if you’re going to be comparing fuel usage, you need to get the same setup on each saw, and cut the same wood, the same way.

My 500i wears a 32 with an 8 tooth
My 462 wears a 25 with a 7 tooth

I’m sure this is one very good reason why the 500i appears to suck down more fuel. I’m hoping that after the 462 is ported, I’ll have an 8 tooth on her too

Good point. My 462 is running a 28”, while the 500 has a 32” on it. Both with skips.
