Definitely way different than hand-cutting as far as a job goes. It’s certainly a bit of a culture shock going from something I am quite comfortable doing to being a complete beginner at.
Congratulations (I think) on the change of scenery.

As far as the 500i is concerned, do you think that you’re going to have enough time to be able to compare your opinions about this one saw against the other one you had ?

Would you happen to have the part # for the wrap kit ?

Even a ported 660 can still go 35-40 minutes on a tank in big wood. I don't know if I'd want to pack that much gas.

My 066/660s suck fuel faster than that, but I'm usually milling with them. My 462s go much longer, and the tank is much smaller (but it is not milling).

I thought injection was supposed to help fuel economy, although I guess not so much unless it is direct injection (which it is not).

It has a little more power, lol. Definitely way different than hand-cutting as far as a job goes. It’s certainly a bit of a culture shock going from something I am quite comfortable doing to being a complete beginner at.

It's good for you to try something new. I got my first fire job as a trainee when I was 18, and then went to work chasing landing and cutting for a mom & pop outfit when I was 19. They had an older
guy that was doing all of the cutting at the time and he fairly well broke me in on falling. He told me one time "You would do well to find work that takes you out of your comfort zone." That's been
great advice and has gotten me the greatest jobs I've ever had.

Just off the get-go, it doesn’t seem to be running as rich as the last one. The inside of the muffler is not as wet, and it never blew as much smoke as the last one.

Here’s the million dollar question is it tuning difference or cylinder difference?

It is definitely out of my comfort zone...lots to learn. I think it’s a smart move for the future instead of hand-falling, but I’ll admit, it kinda sucks starting over on something, and with a bunch of people I mostly don’t know. But everybody is working great with me. I’d been with H&W for seven years, so I was fairly comfortable. But I should only get better on the machine, and more comfortable as time goes on, hopefully.

I took .020 of the fly wheel key and advanced the timing. Its fuel economy improved to 45 minutes a tank, but it suffered a noticeable power loss. It also had a split second hesitation when you gunned the throttle. So I brought it back to stock timing.

It sounds like the Solenoid is very sensitive to timing changes, didn't you try it on the last one as well and it didn't work out that time either?

Good luck with the operating. I made it a couple months in a processor till I lost it, lol.
I think with tethering, were gonna be stuck with the worst of the worst ground anyways from here on out. At least it sure seemed like it for me today.....

I'm 37 and putting off a few surgeries, don't be a *pretty boy like me.

Advancing the molded in flywheel key, what are the advantages on the 500i ?

That's the future of it for sure - that and falling snags on the big fires and cutting the stuff that the machines absolutely cannot handle.
