Was wodering if clam shell motors are any good for porting. Would most of the gains come from the muffler mod?
What all else could ya do other then widen the ports since ya cant really deck them.

Yes... its considered a standard woods port. Lots of gains by shaping and blending.

I rarely do any porting on a clamshell. When I have, I just widen the ports a bit and clean things up. I am not really sure how much "gain" there is as I haven't done any timed cuts or other than the "I think it feels stronger" which may be wishful thinking, lol. I mainly work on the 1127 series Stihls and they get significant gains from just a muffler mod.

The echo i already did a muff mod and it seemed to help it.

All joking aside I was about ready to do some grinding on some ms390 heads bit sent them off to @Black Dog Chainsaw so he can test that new pop up.
I've done several 017 018 290 310 390 stihls very happy with the result just widening and blending the ports advanced the timing well worth it.20170204_140629.jpg
