I believe the square grinder attachment has been NLA for years

Yeah, I know that I’m talking about this new square jig the one that Filbert just posted beneath I’ve watched a couple YouTube and it looks like it does a pretty good damn chain

Report back in here if you get one. Square grinders are fussy but well worth the effort.

Yes this is the one I mean….i have heard people say they have it but not many reviews seem a guy on YouTube was getting good results…. I’m tempted to buy one why well not because I need it just because I’d like to have it lol….. I actually have a couple 20 inch rolls of Oregon square ground that I’ve never used in the middle of getting all my wood ready for this year or more at the end of it but I may put that roll on and try it in my 362 and see how I like it if I like it, I might just buy that damn thing. But I also was thinking I may get the wheel first because I think I may be able to set my steel USG or Oregon grinder up to where it may make a square edge I’d have to play with it first.

Will not work on grinders with a hydraulic or automatic clamp. I think that the inventor likes the Tecomec EVO grinder best, due the tbe adjustability of the sliding vise.

Well I got a Oregon 520 and I just ordered one so I will report back when I get a chain done with it…no idea when it will be here but I talked to the owners today and he is a gentleman of a human!!

Also if you can send link to the facebooks reviews I would love to see those!!

I have seen people talk about having it but not any info on how the chains cut..

I have a Hexa grind wheel from Baltic Abrasives (I helped do their prototype ) that I am able to do sq grinds with my USG. It is tricky but seems to work ok.
The wheel worked great on the Hexa type chains…Husqvarna C-83, Dukes, etc.
Rakers need to be down a bit more with this chain, in my limited experience.

Well I ordered a square jig, I will give a detailed review when get it…got CBN wheel too…they are back ordered but I will post when I get it, can’t wait to give it a try!!

I will say the guy making them called me I was a little shocked, seemed to be a great guy and i absolutely support a guy trying to make some money on something he made himself….i am money ahead from years of sharpening chains and rebuilding saws so im still in the green and I am happy to support the guy!!!!

I am assuming you have to drop the head tilt down quite a bit????

I always thought of dressing a stone and trying the square in the usg, but I hate dressing wheels I like cbn and the consistency it gives me….

45-50 And +/-25 on the slider. Just use a new sq gr chain and play with settings until things match up, or, get close enough.

I’m not sure about shipping from EU at the moment so I’d find out before ordering. The page takes a while to load for some reason.

Got the jig today converted a 20” and put it on my 362, cut great!!!

I’ll prob convert most of my chains to square cuts so smooth!!

I must say this guy selling these is a cool ass dude….i didn’t even know he shipped the damn thing, I ordered last Sunday (it was back ordered I just assumed it would be a few weeks and that’s fine with me), well yesterday morning my boy brings in a box and I was like oh damn it’s here lol….he will also answer any questions you have!!

Anyway I was about to go cut/split wood, but plans changed…..

So first impressions, it’s all well made no doubt, you can tell he ain’t just slapping these together he is trying to make a well built jig…..

I will say if someone is just getting into grinding and this is their first grinder and first time grinding a chain, I can see how they maybe overwhelmed….the reason I say that is because it more adjustments that just doing a regular round ground chain….the second thing that you just simply have to find a way that works for you is the “stop” there is no stop you just line up the chain then hold with your finger…..now that sounds a lot harder/worse than it is,and it honestly is easier than messing with a stop in my opinion!!!!

Now I did a 20” chain yesterday and had to convert a stihl RS chain to square….i honestly think once you have the square chain, it will be fast and simple to touch it up..

As far as the chain goes seriously wow is all I can say….i have been on this sight for years and people prob know i used to be really active on this thread (hell I may have started it lol) and I always keep my chains in good shape whether to put a grind on a rocked chain or touch up with a file…..but this chain cuts as fast or faster than anything I have created yet…..

Anyway I went out to the wood pile and cut up some maple, oak, hackberry, who knows what else and it was smooth and fast….i only ran about 2-tanks on the chain and it was still cutting good enough I left it on for today….i was splitting wood to so that’s why I didn’t get to run a few more tanks of gas on the chain….

Anyway I like it a lot, I got a 28” Oregon chain I am goin to covert next….cant wait to get it on the 461 and let her eat lol…this jig may not be for everyone but if you already have the Oregon grinder (I got the 520), have been using it for awhile, and want a way to make a good square chain without buying the original square grinders, this IS a great option!!!

Awesome write up. Most square grinders have a stop. Most square grinder stops go unused. That is why excellent near vision is essential. I have never had any durability issues whatsoever with square ground in hardwood. The dead oak around here isn’t Australian gum, but it can be crazy hard. There, I said it, my wood is hard…

Ya I started cutting up some smaller maple I needed to move out of my way then got into the oak…eventually got the 20” bar almost buried in bigger oak logs and I didn’t have to apply pressure at all just let the saw eat all by itself, no dogging in necessary!!!

That’s converting a round file to square, so it will only get better….i can play with angles but I’m doin this 28” just like the 20 I did yesterday…..get a good baseline then I can go from there…

The numbers I’m using are 90 degree head tilt, 10-degree left and right cutters, and my slide is at almost At 2-degree….

I was told buy the guy that makes them he likes 5 on the vice slide, so there is all kinds of room for a more/less aggressive angle….

If anyone on here has one I’d love to hear their thoughts!!
