Here is a little comparison of the two grinders.

The middle tooth isn't bad, but look at the other two in the pick.

I finally got to go out and cut last week with my newly ground chains. They cut great! I haven't had a chain, new or used, cut this well before. It was amazing how much less I have to work the saw...

Next round of sharpening, I'm going to add some tilt and see how it cuts. I'm mostly cutting dead ash right now.

I plan on dropping 1 or 2 trees this week and cutting them up for firewood. I'm curious to see how long these chains last as well. Since I've not had a sharpener in the past, I know I've worn chains longer than I should. Now I hope I don't feel the need to do that and can swap chains when I notice a difference in the effort to make a cut.
Man isn't that a good feeling....knowing you can get a chain to cut as good or in most cases better than a brand new chain is great....

As you play with the angles more you can absolutely get a chain that cuts, self feeds, and keeps an edge for a good amount of time....

Throw up some more chain pixa when you eat a chance....Keep us informed, and glad you are getting it all straightened out!!!!!

Well, here's some more work I've been doing tonight.

This is my first time dressing a wheel. I thought the profile came out pretty good.

Then, I decided to add the 10° tilt into this chain. Here are a few pics of the outcome. Too late to try it out, but I'll put it on after I wear my other down some. It looks a little different, but I think the results look promising.

Lastly, I thought I'd give you guys a chance to critique my technique. Please, constructive criticism only. Here's a short video of me grinding one tooth.

I personal don't grind that far down. But that's me, try your grind and see how it works for you. You mite love it. I'm mostly cutting hardwood. That is a very sharp looking cutter.
@Philbert could help you the most with explanations of why not.
I do love how gentle you are. I like that a lot.
As for the 10 degree angle, I can't tell a difference in the cut, but you and/or others mite be able to.
I'm glad to see you trying things and posting them. Really helps out more than you think.

Good job

First off let me say, good for you sir.....I know it takes a lot to post pics of you work and tell people you are open to criticism, I know because I am the same way my friend....I learned along time if you want to learn/get good at something, leave your ego and pride at the door!!!!

Now as far as the tooth you pictured, good job, maybe next time just don't go quite as deep....I sometimes use a pass or two(depending on gullet condition), to strictly clean out the gullets......I can't wait to hear how it cuts!!!!

As far as the video, I also use the tap-tap method...however, i usually use about 3-6 taps, depending on the condition of the chain....if roughly 3-6 taps with the wheel don't get the tooth we're I want it, I just go to the next tooth and plan on doing another pass....

One more thing, I am constantly "tweaking" my technique.....I am always trying new things...see how that chain cuts, then if it works good(I bet it will), remember your settings....you can always, "go less/more deep into the gullet" for example and change things as you go....also don't forget to "check" the rakers!
