Look at the edges of this cutter ,crisp and clean ,no spoon left on the top ,this is grinding into good meat i call it ,when your chain is rocked out ,it takes a lot of removal to get the cutter looking like this again ,also the cutter is smooth on the faces ,no chatter marks from pushing too hard with the file ,it does not take a heavy hand to sharpen chain ,let the file or the grinding wheel do the work ,not your heavy fist .
He is meaning about where you are holding/positioning it....like not letting it skate around and find it's own path. Make it go where you want... letting the teeth do the workJohn Reilly says "YOU" should be in charge of the file. LOL
Make the file so what you want it to do. Lol
Just funnin ya Brian
Don't want to de-rail anything here, but it is going to be maybe a dozen tanks IMHO...Good earl, good stihl, just takes some thyme.I don't think I have even broken it in yet. Lol

The lighter touch for the sharper chain is what i was trying to put into words ,a heavy fisted filer will get some chatter ,and the sharp edge of the cutter will be rougher than a lighter sharpen .I have to agree with John Riley on this one...and finish with junkmans advice.
What I'm assuming John is implying is when you're not firm and strong handed it will lessen the life of the file. You don't want it too squeak or skip away without biting metal because it will quickly dull. I start with a couple good firm swipes, then relax and let the file do the finish work for a glass smooth finish on the cutter.
The teeth cut very well, but it seems I just missed the corner a slight bit.
Thanks for the feedback.
I still hack away, continuously learning this square file. I converted this chain from round to square. Lol
We're on the same page bud. Most folks can't get the angle perfect to start with and it takes a little more pressure to get the file to dig in.The lighter touch for the sharper chain is what i was trying to put into words ,a heavy fisted filer will get some chatter ,and the sharp edge of the cutter will be rougher than a lighter sharpen .
So, did Dallas ever run his chain??Nothing wrong with that cutter, like Matt said.
When Dallas first got his grinder, he sent me a chain to try. I had to either dog in or take the rakers down to .035 to get an 044 to cut. That chain would go I bet 5 tanks in clean hardwood before a touch-up. Great work chain
Yep. Took it to DDaves and played with it.So, did Dallas ever run his chain??
I never heard anything from him..
Yeah it cut good. Plus it gave him something to look at so he can try and make his ownSo did it cut worth a *s-word??
Or wuz it a dud..??
