So I've been looking at chain breakers and spinners. Price varies greatly between the brands and they can be bought individually or in a set.

I'm a "buy once, cry once" kind of guy so I want to buy quality the first time.

Obviously I've seen the Stihl, Oregon, Archer, Tecomac, and other unbranded units out there. Are the Stihl units worth that much more then the Oregon units? What about the other brands?

I use the Oregon break and spinner. Have had them almost a year. Good stuff. Still learning though.

I pre grind my rivets to break. Breaker tips last much longer with little resistance to push out of link plate.
Stihl breaker
Tecomec spinner
After the fight I had last night I may start doing the same.

Not being an expert on this subject myself i would give the Harbor Freight system a try first.
You can always return things to Harbor Freight without a lot of trouble.

I've seen some reviews of the HF breaker, mostly the support plate, as unusable. Also some grips about the spinner anvils not producing a decent rivet till you reshape and polish them.
I have been told that replacement parts (punches, spinner anvils, etc.) are not available for the HF product (and many similar ones on eBay).

I have had the Bailey's combo for many years, which I saw them using in their shop for customer orders. They stock replacement parts.

Parts for the Oregon / Tecomec / and compatible spinners and breakers are widely available.

I had a cheap offshore spinner, and the rivet forming
head was off centre from the screw jack .Notice that they
are 2 thin punched out plates welded together and they
dont always line up. Got rid of it and went to the cast
iron stihl set and have the original die ,with no issues

I have had a Tecomec set for years. Spun many of 100 foot rolls of chain. Even spun some 3/4 chain for my logger buddy. I would not hesitate to recommend or buy again. Got mine from Madsen's.

I am pretty sure Tecomec makes them for Oregon. Just like there chain grinders
