A friend of mine just starting selling the a VP brand of race fuel. He sells all varieties and they store also sells pre-mix. Anyone here running and of the canned gas? Do you have any issues, likes or dislikes. It obviously costs more then mixing pump gas with premium oil but the vp stuff comes with a 3 year guarantee after its opened.

This stuff is what I would like to try.

I run the 40:1 VP in the 5 gallon cans. I don't run my saws every day, so I like the 5 yr shelf life (unopened), and also like not having to worry about it sitting in the saw. I get it for 75 or 80 bucks per 5 gallons. We only have 1 pump around here that's non-ethanol, and it's only 87 octane, so that's another reason I use it. I personally like it, and my saws run good, so I'm sticking with it.

I’ve run a few cans of the vp in my stuff and everything runs excellent on it definitely has a little different smell to it. Not sure what fuel of theirs they put in the little cans vs the big 5 gallon ones. The small quarts and gallon jugs just say small engine fuel not what one they use. I’ve also thought about the 5 gallon cans or out of the pump. We have a vp race fuel gas station not far away 95 octane is like 5$ a gallon and the 110 is 9,50$.

Maybe I’ll need to buy 5 gallons of the 95 and 110 to bring to Michigan. If the saw dyno were to show up we could see if the saws did anything different on the other fuel.

Thought maybe what they had blended in the gas might help. Vp claims more hp with a lot of their fuels in cans so thought maybe the 95 might be like the canned fuel and burn different. I know most fuel the only reason octane is there is to give you ability to modify your engine to make more power. Just thought maybe this fuel would act different because of blending also not just octane rating.

Not trying to start an oil or fuel debate was just curious about vp’s claims of more power they don’t say you need to do anything to the motor but will make a small percentage more power.

We use it with some volunteer groups, because fuel related problems were such an issue, and with many fingers, a mixing problem is just waiting to happen.

Was not my decision. When we need it, I try to buy the TruFuel on sale for about $5 / quart. * BTW, the ‘gallon’ cans are often not a gallon (only 110 ounces), so the quarts are often less expensive.

I'm in a small town I'd run canned fuel or tru fuel or VP anything but pump fuel if it wasn't so exspencive here it's the last real fuel we can still get.
I'm stuck with the down on power boiling paint thinners from the servos lol

Anyone run the Stihl Moto mix?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I ran 2 gallons of it when I bought each of my 461's, and I couldnt tell a difference between it, Trufuel, or VP, as far as running characteristics. It's about 35 bucks a gallon here, so I only used the one gallon per saw, so I could get a better warranty on the saws.

It's about 35 bucks a gallon here . . .
Checked today at my local Menard's: TruFuel was about $5.50 / quart, but $4.98 if you buy 5 or more. The 110 ounce 'not-quite-a-gallon' size sold for about the same price per ounce. It goes on sale periodically.

Frankly, if you would have asked me if pre-mixed fuel would sell for 9 to 10 times the price of mixed pump gas, I would have laughed at you. But I did not think people would buy bottled water like they do either. Maybe that's why I am on this site and not Forbes. . . .

Yeah, the Stihl stuff is extremely expensive, and I also don't get the bottled water thing either. I can get VP for the same cost as Tru Fuel, otherwise I'd use Tru Fuel. I can tell you this, if I used my saws daily, I would be dealing with the 87 octane pump gas and mix my own, but I can deal with a 5 gallon can per year.

You’re good lol. I was just saying chainsaws don’t have the compression for high octane fuel.

Some guys prefer 89, but I saw some detonation, I think that may be because of poor quality of the fuel itself not the octane. 110 definitely slowed things down, including idle, 98 is the highest octane I'd ever go.
