Me and a my logger buddy walked out a little patch of timber today, lots of these on it and these are why I have a 395,he runs a 064/066 and it will cut most of these trees but the 95 will get the biggest ones.View attachment 38644

That would be cut with a 461 around here.

I'm not sure why the issue is with the 385? With weight difference of 2.2 pound's (395 17.4# 385 15.2#) and then the cost difference. You would be able to get a 385 then get it ported with the money you save. I had my 385 buried with a 36" bar and brand new square ground chain this weekend cutting diagonal slab's. It never skipped a beat.

Not a damn thing wrong with any of these saws, it's pure preference

I'd like to see a new 98-110cc saw from Husky/Stihl like days past. I think with new design/AV/light components it could be awesome. Sometimes 90cc's in hardwood with 30"+ b/c is not enough but a 3210/880 is to big and heavy. I can't see it happening though.

I would like to try a 661 though. From the look's of Jason's and redfin's video's they are really strong!

The av is an advantage and disadvantage of the 385/390's though.
I luv my 390 set up with 404 to noodle! Only other saw Ive ran that I liked as well noodling was a 661c

Jason, my ported 460s will pull a 36" bar nicely through Red Oak, I'm sure they would have no problem going through those Tulip like paper mache, and they are a lot lighter than the 660 &661.

The power to wt of a 064 is tough to beat, wish I had one but I don't.

Also, for felling, the larger saw will balance that long bar better.

Doesn't a 385 loose the big end bearing?

My 460 will run a 36",hell al has a video of a 026 he built running one but not in a logging situation where if you have to push or your chain isn't perfect.

There's a big difference in running it and cutting a big shag bark hickory down and then topping it and doing 30 more like it in a day.

The crank and bearings are bigger on a 90cc saw for a reason, it will live day in and day out for a long time and that is another reason there used over the smaller saw. I've never ran a saw that was to powerful. The guys in the log woods don't care if it's a lb or 2 heavier
At the end of the day I or anybody I've worked with has ever said boy I wish my saw was lighter.

It's presumptuous to make a statement like that from one camera angle and call it insane dangerous dumb and risky. I was the one driving the hardhead wedge we knew it was going to right where we wanted it to

Presumptuous? Perhaps.
Accurate? Definitely.

I seriously recommend that you spend some time researching correct felling techniques and also accidents in the woods.
Your family needs you, take the fact that a random person on the internet is scared for you and anyone who watches that and thinks it is ok as a pretty serious reason to start educating yourself.

Great....Monday morning quarterbacking....

Actually it was a buddy of mine that was felling the tree not myself. IMHO The only thing he did a little off it went too deep on his face cut. After it was done we all agreed that it was too far, we also agreed that it was Still well within the margin of safety especially considering the tree was leaning the correct direction anyways, and still plenty of sound holding wood and plenty of room to drive a wedge.
The Felling cut was done by another buddy of mine Who is quite an experienced. Last year he fell one that makes that one looks small. I just bucked it up after it was down.

I know it is your opinion that
it's a miracle any of us survived. You watch the last 30 seconds of a tree falling and make all judgments from 1 camera angle without being there, I'm just saying you are not as informed as you think you are. Also you are the only one who said anything about "how we're doing it all wrong" in case you hadn't noticed.

Thank you for your concern and infinite wisdom.
