BIG saw?

I might have a taste for a MS661cm or 390XP. Pro's or con's between the two?
How do the bottom ends compare?

If you want one that will "blow your head Cleannn off" I recommend the 661 cm

Depends on how "big" of saw you need. Of the 2 you picked I'd take the 661 anyday

Not to be a downer, but unless your dealing with big wood a big saw
Is overrated
I don't deal with much over
30" or 35"

Strong 60-70cc will do all the firewood I need.

Just got done with a 395, while it was crazy strong/quick with a 28"+ I ain't gonna carry that heavy thing for firewood lol.

28-32 probably go with the 390 36+ the 661. Never ran either one tho.

385/390 will cut a lot of large wood..... 394/5 will handle BIG wood easier but is a lot more saw to handle and tote around...
sorry i have no exp with the big stihl though so can't compare there... your mileage may vary....

28's nice on 288. never run 395, but had/have 394s. noticeable weight diff.

Pretty significant price difference, not to mention the likelihood of finding one second hand. You'd have to be pretty hard headed to not admit the 661 is a better saw, but it's not enough of a difference for me to sell my 385 and buy a 661.

I am in complete agreement. My big saw now is MMWS 390xp. Had a 395 MMWS for many years (which was stupid strong) also, but found the 390 much easier to tote around. Tested Cutting speed was nearly the same in wood up to 32" or so which is about as big as a want to go. Should I ever need It I'm pretty confident that 390 could pull a 42" skip without complaint. This is why I looking forward to a spicy super Mike 385 in the near future.

Sold the 395.

This years firewood: 42" at the base. 390 went through and blocked up this tree 16 inches at a time in about an hour. Sure it could've been faster, but I took a number of breaks.then came the hard part of hauling it out of there and filling the trucks and trailers. Good times!

36" bar in the cut" may have been 48" @ the base...

I went with a great group of guys, and most of them had good saws. The 390 was the hero of the day for sure!

That's fine for pine, but a 42" oak will make you wish you hade the 395 back. Lol
