Super cool saw!

Be careful, though, dressed in that color, that saw stands a considerably higher risk of being run over by your wood truck, left in the woods, having a tree felled on it, etc. Just gotta remember where you put it.

I'll get the muffler modded as soon as she's home, under the support with a nice screen like some others have done

Looks like that saw has an original jungle muffler on it to me. Should not be necessary to mod it, or anything else for that matter, they are quite powerful "as is". Save up a bit of energy for starting it, would be my recommendation.

Would this muffler have the tube in it like the 262? It looks relatively the same design.

The "pipe" on those mufflers is quite small and still restrictive...It will still benefit greatly from a second port.

Which is what I hoped for when I did it. Did notice a big difference from stock muffler to jungle muffler, had to re-tune(richen) saw. Added second port to jungle seemed close to same as stock jungle, no re-tune. This being an otherwise stock saw, surely if it were ported this would change.

It looks to have come from the factory in that colour, there's not a trace of orange on it anyway. It'll be interesting to see if the plastics are painted or if they came from the factory green all the way through

On the military saws, the Remington's were painted, the Stihls and Husqvarna were green dyed from the factories that way.
There was a thread on Anotherist Site about them years ago, but I can't find it?
Maybe @SawTroll will know fer sure?

It looks legit, and they are a decent saw.

I don't know how they became green, but everything points at a Husky factory job. I have also seen pictures of British Army surplus 281s that were orange - I guess they just stopped special ordering them green at some point?
This one is an early 281, judged by the chain brake, serial number?

All Army surplus 181s I have seen pictures of were green - but admittedly it is only a few.

Just an Euro style muffler I believe, not a true "jungle" one?

Yes they where British army issue I don't know the years but I will get my 281 out of mothballs and do some photos and the serial tag so the year can be identified
I wanted the original army issue box which was stamped with all the info about the saw but he wanted too many shillings for the box
I think these saws spent more time travelling around than being used
I've seen a few MOD green stihls in Germany for sale
