More close ups of the inclusions...View attachment 55997 View attachment 55998

I believe there is a possibility of this thing cracking or breaking apart after long term use. So after putting a little run time in it ill have to inspect the inclusions better by doing some port work on it to find out if they are deep enough to be a danger.
I'm open to requests for any specific pictures that may be wanted.
That looks like porosity's from gases not being able to vacate during casting.
Sand cast grey cast iron is doing the same thing if the sand is too dense and/or too much impurities are included in the casting sand or molten iron.

That is a special cast that includes a suppressor, the expanding gases find their way through the pourous cylinder walls making the saw/engine run quieter.
Who knows, that cylinder might not even need a muffler port and muffler...

My MS290 cylinder came today. Impressed is my initial impression; nice looking cylinder. I don't have a degree wheel so I can't help with timing info; my review will be more "seat of the pants" type around fit, finish and function. I'll start a separate thread.
