But as I stated, it wood be cool to go right from DYNO into wood to further confirm accuracy of DYNO.
Not trying to muddy anything here. Y'all are taking it the wrong way. [emoji2369]
I won't comment anymore.
not trying to be a dick jeff (it just comes naturally :zpong:), but thats my point, putting it in wood with a human attached to it will not confirm accuracy, it will only become more subjective. the dyno is an objective machine. thats all im trying to get at. the difference between perception and reality is what we are talking about. variables are exactly the thing dyno’s are built to eliminate.

Reality is a bad word for some folks...

The reality is the questioning will never stop over this thread. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. The sheet of paper from a dyno run is the reality for some people... and for others the reality is the result you get lining up against another guys saw and beating him. Just like the timeslip at the end of a drag race. It just depends on your perspective and opinion. To me both ways can be used as a tool to learn from.

Operator is going to trump almost anything in the stopwatch relm. What I think will be interesting is changes to the same saw. Different AF, pipe outlet vs deflector, zama, tilly, 357 intake vs stock on 346. Stuff you talked yourself into believing made a diff, but you can’t swear to it...Dyno=Quantify

I hear you. 100%.
Just curious why it takes 5 or 6 DYNO pulls to get a good test? I am not criticizing Joe or anything so please don't take it that way. I think he was the one who said it took 5 or 6 runs to get it.
This is why I think in my head about putting the saws, "SAME OPERATOR", along with all the other "variables" I listed, into wood to affirm the DYNO results.
It only seems natural to me to do that. Just me. To see if strong DYNO result equates to strong running saw in real world.
I don't know. I guess I all washed up here. My investigative background coming through I guess...
You guys carry on...

It's just a data thing on my end.

If I hit the perfect smooth 10-14 second (2000-2400 data points) pull. The dyno computer averages the data for me in 100 rpm increments. Then I input the data in the graphs by hand. That is why the graphs show as smooth as they are.

Now I could get a perfect run if I pulled for 20-30 seconds each time. But that would be 4k-6k data points. Meaning I could have 15 values for a 12,500 rpm spot.

Short smooth pull gives enough data to fill in the graph.

Long runs give double/triple the data needed.

Now if I had the software, it would average/smooth a long run to fit my normal graph size. But sadly I can't seem to get that to work.

i dont need a dyno run to know i won or lost a race. and the fastest saw doesnt always win, because of variables. the dyno eliminates every variable except the saw to give a pretty darn accurate measure of how a saw performs on its own.

Yup... it would be like taking a dyno sheet of paper to a gtg bragging your saw has 10hp and will beat everyone... yeah unwise. You better have your A game in the chain, sprocket, bar, tune and your operating skills. Lots of other variables.

Not really. As long as you don’t get the chain too crazy I’ve done it in elm with a 34” full comp if I remember right with 8 pins to compare them the best I could
im not doubting its been done and would work ok woth the right swtup, but bigmac (the message i quoted) was talkin about leaning on it, dogged in. i can think of a lot better ways to cut wood than a 5 cube saw with a 36” and a8 pin.
