Max bar length on a 288xp? General purpose and milling soft wood. 32"? 36"? Seams to oil a 28" plenty on 3rd click/position....Issues oiling a 36"?

I needz a longer bar for milling....lose about 6-8" of bar on the Alaskan Mill....a 28" doesn't cut it...Haha

Ended up getting a 32" power match Amazon return for $65. It's .050 and that's mostly what I have. For those who are into the .063.....a 32" Tsumura light sure would look nice on a 288....especially for $104Screenshot_20240519-115424.png

My 288 was BGD’d, pulled 36” nicely. I put a racy file job on a skip chain once because all I had was a 5/32” file…I was pleasantly surprised with how fast it cut buried in green soft wood. I really like a 288 for felling/work.

That’s a good price for a 32” Tsumura LT bar , I use all .063 gauge on bars 32 and up , although the picture of the bar isn’t a LT bar ,

It's a one size fits all photo of one of their little laminate bars. Gotta choose your option. Ordered a 20" solid bar from that seller a year or two ago and got the correct one.....plus if they somehow screw it up...Free returns on Amazon.

Is there an advantage to .063 on long bars? I've heard it holds oil better?

288 or 281? Your vid spoke of a 281.
Either way…42” bar on these saws is quite something.

Better wear and durability, strength on long chain loops ,

I have a 288, and now a 281. The video is not mine, he is a west coast faller and good porter.
Have you ran them side by side? Notice much difference in performance between the two?

They are not all running or here at the moment. But the 288 had a lot more grunt. The 281 will become a 288. And or get ported. I think all together I have a couple of each. One 281 is getting a racy port for 5 cube. One 288 is ported for a long bar by @Crocky28. Last 288 may got to @Stump Shot…maybe I’ll make the 281 a BGD 288 like my first one.

Starting a 288 build and installed new seal but it went in further then the original..I tapped it in till the outside lip of the seal touched the crank .

Is this a problem?

It should be down from the top of the lip 3.5mm on the starter side of a 288. If bottomed out, it's against the bearing not the crank and I would say that could be problematic.

Well I'll have to measure this one and if it's to deep I'll have to install another one .
Thanks

Is that 3.5 mm from the orange very outside lip or the inner lip ?
