It will probably be fine. I think they come with bearings installed…again, you can probably run with the bearings it comes with, but you might consider replacing with some SKF or Nachi bearings.

Already have them. I've had this on my bench for a while, want a nice case for it. Good used ones are getting had to find.

I built a FT 288 from a parts kit when they first came out. The cases & crank actually seemed pretty nice.

Maybe I just got lucky, but my FT 288 runs very strong and has held up just fine, except for the 1st gen oil pump.

That would depend upon the hourly rate, if you factor in the cost of a new 288xp which is 1200.00 generally, then consider what you'll have after the rebuild.
The 288 is a fantastic saw but if what you have is an ugly 288 that approaches the same cost as a new one ? I'd look into other alternatives.

2mm's in bore diameter won't make or break you one way or the other. Just think of it as (small bore) shorter bar and (large bore) longer bar.
