Nope, I got some industrial enamel especially tinted to husky orange and sprayed them with my gravity feed spray gun. I just need to find a nice top cover that isn't faded!

Thanks for that Dan, I checked today and yes, new top covers are available, and only $59NZD which I thought was really reasonable. I've got one underway and will post some pics once it's all finished.

Your welcome and that's awesome! Glad you found one! I dont know what the exchange rate is but mine was less than $30 here in the states!

Not sure if it has been posted but, a 390 full wrap fits nicely with some finesse. A little dead blow and some new holes.

It also matches the AM brake handles nicley.


Props to @rattler for a little help with deciding to try this.

clutch cover touchin it?
got stihl 036 pro safety on 268. needed trim on back of cc.
same can be done on 288 w/no ill effects, other than looks.

IIRC the 288 full wrap has a piece of rubber hose behind the clutch cover. That looks great BTW.

Yeah the cover was touching in those photos. Little more love with the dead blow and voila.

All finished! I must admit, after being a Stihl man all my life (my father used to own a dealership in the late 1970's) that this saw has changed my opinion a bit. It feels alive...and has serious grunt! this is a 300th anniversary edition from '89 which I've completely rebuilt.

It puts a smile on my face every time I fire it up. Put a wrap on it and 32” is all I’ve been running on it as of late.
