We need @Red97 to dyno a stock 500i next to a 572 because it looks like the 572 did about 7hp, while stock specs say 5.8hp, so it makes you wonder how accurate the 500i's specs are: higher or lower or same? +1hp -1lb sounds great in the 500i, but I'd still wonder about the power. Of course there's no beating the Stihl Light bar

Well the torque of the 500i will go further on a long bar in hardwood than hp in my opinion but if the 572 puts that out I’d bet the 462 outdoes its rating too since they’re so close in all the videos I’ve seen. Kevin builds a nice 500i ran the one at tree monkey’s. I love the way the 500i accelerates I’d say it was the crispest saw I’ve ever ran and ported it had gobs or torque. So everyone that’s saying port a 462 or 572 I’d say buy the 500 run as is and if not enough have it ported then there is no reason it doesn’t meet all your expectations of light weight and tons of power

Looks like the scarr 572 that was just dynoed is very close the same HP as the ported 500i, very interesting stuff for sure.
Except that the 500i has over 1ftlb more torque at 5500 and doesn't drop below 5ftlb until 10,000 whereas the 572 is sitting at just over 4.5ftlb at that point.

Also about 500.00 difference for that 1ftlb. And the 572 gives up atleast 8cc to start with.... And you DNT need to spend another $100 on a maxflow setup for the 572, lots of things to consider.

Well here in NZ, the 572 retails for the equivalent of $1527USD whereas I paid the equivalent of $1335USD for my 500i.

Sounds like your options are very different then ours here, seems like you made the best choice you could at those prices, I wonder why the 572 is more there then the 500i?

Well, here, the 500i retails for the equivalent of $1658USD I just got a very good deal from my dealer. I'd probably get a great deal on the 572xp too if I wanted to but I was set on the 500i. Retail the 500i is only $200NZD more than the 572

I had a 572 and sold it for a MS462C, I had ran them all including the 500i, my decision was based on wanting to run a 20" bar 99% of the time, the 572 didnt balance well for me w a 20", if I had wanted to run a 24"+ I probably would have chose the 572, air injection was a must for me, just my preference. The 500i was light and nimble and snappy for a big saw, price and filtration, fuel consumption are just not for me, I guess we each want different things from a saw and it's good we have options.

If you had to pick one to use 5 times a year which one would it be ?

I pick the 500..it has a nice fit and finish for polish.

I choose the 462, fit what I wanted to do the best cost was around $1000.00, 572 was cheaper but I didn't like the feel w a short bar. I love that saw Everytime I use it, like I said glad we have options and we are all looking for something a little different in a saw.

I definitely won't pick the 500.
Sitting too much causes too much fuel system problems. I still dont trust the injection system.

I think it's pretty fancy looking. I still can't believe the worlds first fuel injected chainsaw has 1980's air filtration...max flow is probably happy.

To each their own.
