If your saw is just another toy for you.....then 1300.00 seems like a lot for a toy.

If you fell timber for a living and own skidders, loaders, log trucks, etc....then 1300.00 for a lightweight powerful felling saw is a drop in the bucket.

I talk to men regularly who are getting older, and still carry a saw through the woods daily to feed their families. What do they want? A saw that is both light, and powerful. Period.

Cost is irrelevant if it helps them get through the day productively.

You hit the nail head on Randy! I am one of them getting a little longer in tooth and weight makes a huge difference. And it don't get any better. A lighter ported saw is the ticket for me!

That pretty much sums it up. Young or old, west or east, steep or flat. Lighter is generally better, if the power is there.

If you already have an 046, I wouldn’t get the 572, the 572 feels like a really good 046, in weight and power, it’s kinda redundant, nothing wrong with that either. But if you get the 500 it’s lighter than your 046 and will have more power.

I'd much rather have an M-Tronic saw than an adjustable version.

Legit wisdom here. I adore my ported 346...but me thinks a 550 mk2 is in the future for me.

Dont be afraid of mtronic or auto tuning saws anymore, they're frankly the cream of the crop.

I haven’t got to run the 572 yet but have a fair amount of time on a 462 and a 500i. My vote is the 500i because all of the videos I’ve seen the 462 and 572 are very close. From what everyone has said a 572 has a bit more Torque and the 462 is more of a reving saw. While all three saws will be very close on cut times with shorter bars I’m thinking the very good torque curve on the 500i wins out on the 24-28” up hardwood with a 28-32” bar. Also in my area a 572xp gos for 950$ the 462cm gos for 1149 and if the price gos like the 462 did before it was here the 500i should be around the 1300$ mark like out of Greece. Oh and in my opinion also I wouldn’t be without the mtronic, auto tune or fuel injected saw. I really wish my 362 was a cm instead of carb

Unless it does not hold up or causes multiple problems.
True, and if the overall design doesn’t suit a user.
We have production pressures on us, so we need some authoritative power, but we also don’t want to run ourselves into the dirt everyday. So we generally choose something that balances that.

Stihl does have really light bars, so it it is about weight, I'd go with the 500i with a light bar. Otherwise I'd definitely get a ported 572 if I just wanted bang for the buck.

The 572 and 460 are almost equal in hp and weight. The 500i is 1 lb less, 1 hp more but $500 more.
I’m after a new saw that is lighter, more powerful and has better AV.
Doesn’t matter what the carb is or not as I don’t tune my own saws anyway.
I picked up a used 562xpg and kind of like it so for 1lb more there is a gain in hp.
If the 572 and the 500i were the same price, I’d probably go with the fuelly. I’m not really brand loyal, as my brand was Jonsered.

Sounds like the 500 is what you are looking for. The 572 isn’t gonna feel a whole lot different than your o46, probably a little smother and a little more power but not night and day. Depending on your needs of 462 might fit the bill, it’s quite a bit lighter, better av, but not more power
