That's one thing about John Deere they are proud of their parts! I needed a pin for my skidder. $190! Like you said tough to leave the dealer for under $500.

Water pump for my 2640....510.00

Oil cooler cartridge.....660.00

Ugh.

I've learned to be very careful about saying the name "John Deere". If uttered near a WIFI connection 500.00 is automatically withdrawn from my bank account.
They're really proud of that green paint...

At least you can get parts for them. I'm a hopeless romantic in love with Allis Chalmers and Ford tractors.

At least AGCO makes some of the A/C parts. New Holland dropped the Ford legacy stuff like a hot potato. A few years ago we had our PTO bearing go out of our 9600, and according to our dealer, we got the last bearing in stock on the east coast. We sold the tractor soon after it was fixed, since it ate PTO bearings every 3-4 years.

Ugh.

Learned the hard way the "Aftermarket" stuff for my 2750, half price is the same as in the green box...:) Especially for those German 70-80hp range deere's

My water pump was $150 ebay, $250 deere dealer. Bought the ebay AM one , sent it back because it was a "universal", and then bought the dealer one....identical, $100 for a green box.

Your 2640 has the same motor as my 490D too interestingly enough.

Very nice Onan,
about 7 years ago I bought a brand new Swedish made 1993 272XP (the good ones with no decomp)
I had the pleasure of cutting its first wood with it. Only burned a few tanks.
Compared here to my then new 562XP the 272 is more compact.
And as last pic shows I lightened it up good too by removing the dual dogs, heavy lead ballast weight in the brake lever and installed an OEM HD filter.
