You monkeyed with a saw that worked before and hung a ring after. I could suggest a lot of other failure modes than the ring not bringing a buddy to the party. Certainly not the mechanic or the tune. I think your right about knowing too much to learn though, that's a real disease. Its a good thing I don't know much I guess.

I monkeyed with the saw first and it worked fine with two rings, and didn’t work with one. A cylinder and 3 pistons later I had it figured out.
