Fresh rebuild 372xt

High tunes perfect. Cleans up in wood...4 stroke out. Nice response.

Low is even... but not low enough.

Carb was cleaned.

Idle screw all the way out...can't fatten it up to lower idle more. Ie...not enough fuel at idle. Usually I can tune a saw so I can get it to die it's so fat.

Metering lever too high?

The throttle line is properly positioned...and it looks like the carb does return home properly when you let off the gas.

Ideas?

Have ya swapped a known runner carby on the saw yet ?
I haven't had good luck rebuilding carbs of late. Or I'm just too blinking lazy to rebuild them the right way. I just get another one and get to getting....comes a time in a mans life where he says I just want the darn thing to run...I don't care about why it won't ....carbs do that to me. Freekin mystery machines these days they are...

If ya don't find one by next week lemme know. I'll be back home then and box one up fer ya. I gotta run my 385s some more anyway...I get too comfy with the 372s then forget how much the 385s make me giggle..

(Just don't tell any of my Sithl buddies.)

Edit: oh crap..does it matter if the carb if not xtorq I think mine are XP?

It's not fattening at idle....high seems to be fine.

I'll try messing with the needle.

You can try a weaker metering spring. When there is a strong spring holding the metering valve closed, it acts like lowering the float level in a float carb - in other words it leans out the idle.

See if you can find a weaker spring in an old carb and give it a go.

Many throw/firmly toss frustrating cursed carbs that are possesed with black magic into the trash can hoping they never be involved with ones life again. I get that, but after a deep breath even a cursed carb can be a good source of parts to tune other good carbs that will go to heaven. A small divided clear plastic fishing tackle box can hold many metering springs, arms, throttle shafts, brass screws, jets, needles and linkage assemblies which can assist in many mods, carb swaps and tricky carb things one may do in the future. A variety of stronger/weaker metering springs is priceless the day you need them.

This saw was pieced together...

I'll use some carb cleaner and see if I got a leak

Metering level is too low if it can't get enough fuel. There's 3 jets in the carb. A micro drill bit set may fix the problems as well. 385 carb will fit.

That 385 you got should make anyone smile Angelo

Heck Mike, I was just talking about my garden variety off the shelf 385...

Not the" hacked up" one....that one only comes out on Sunday after church .... :)

As odds have it I do have a brand new carburetor.

Pulled the other one....found one of those stupid rubber tabs slash positioners that stick into the carburetor was folded over potentially creating a leak in about half an hour or so I'll start it and see if that was the problem

Ok....the idle now goes lower....before I couldn't lower the idle enough to kill it....now I can. It still doesn't seem to be flowing fuel as freely as it should. ...gonna head outside in a bit and see what's up.

I was tuning in the basement :(

Why do my threads always turn into husky vs stihl threads?

Oh yeah...that's right.....it's the docs fault.

But.

And if shortening a little the same spring ??
