So I've been searching for some answers on a 362 mtronic and haven't really been able to find what I'm looking for . Apologies if this subject has been covered ... anyhow...

I found a 362 mtronic at a pawn shop. If this saw had an hour on it, I'd be surprised. I sold it to my buddy who makes a living cutting trees. I saw him the other day and he tells me that the saw starts on the second pull when cold and then takes 30 plus pulls when hot. Searching the web, seems this is a common issue. Most of the threads I've read are old, so I'm wondering if anything new has been learned about this issue. I've read guys say to choke em when hot, others say not to. Some say hold full throttle when hot, others say don't use the decomp when hot. Some claim of a vapor lock. Oh then the horror stories at the dealer trying to resolve the issue.. doesn't seem that the dealer could fix the issue, or at least in 2015 at the time of the threads that I read.

Again, I hope I'm not resurrecting a worn out subject. Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

Problem for my 550xp as well. It happens mainly when shutting off the saw after a good stretch and the electronics and/or carb get heat soaked after sitting for a few minutes. Quick restarts are not a problem. I've found not using the de-comp and cranking while holding the throttle really helps. Not sure if Stihl has similiar issues. I haven't ran my 261c-m enough yet, but I wouldn't choke a hot saw for restart.

MTronic saws do not have a choke position, just "Start" "Run" & "Off". Usually, you can start it in the Run position if it is warm. If it does not start by the second pull, put it on Start.

Occasionally, the saw may get flooded, and will start by holding the throttle pinned in the run position.

If it continues to have problems, do a reset. Start (and leave it on start) for 90 seconds, then off. Start in Run position and let idle for 90 seconds, then shut off. Then start it and put it in some good size wood.

Make sure the basics are good before doing this (air filter, fuel filter & plug). Also check the exhaust screen.

Stihl can call it whatever they want. But the start position is choke & fast idle.

I've never had any starting issues with my 261cm. A friend did with my 550 once this summer. I think he just flooded it. Don't know for sure though.

Does the 362 cm in question have the played back cylinder design like the 5 series huskies? I know the new 362's do but not sure on the earlier ones.

you have to bleep the throttle as your cutting it off. dont know why but stihl tech training says to bleep the throttle when going to cut it off.
This would be incorrect. They are having more issues because of this. My source said that is a major no no as it floods the saw AND also leaves a footprint in the memory that influences the high and low settings.

Hi Mark, and thank you for the corrected information, that is what I thought.

And Grazer, if Start were the same as Choke, you could not run the saw in that position for 90 seconds.

Take the filter holder off and see for yourself. The choke plate has a small hole that allows enough air in to let it run.
