Got the carb on today, this saw is one I put together 2 or 3 years ago, 357 bottem with the stuffers, 359 top with transfers matched to the case, opened transfers some but did not grind out the dividers since Mr. Evans said it was better to leave them in.
I don;t remember now but I must have widend intake & exh., did base gasket delete & bigger hole in muffler.
This saw was faster than my stock 562, beating it everytime at a gtg.
It fired rite up with the new carb, seems to have a deeper roar now. Took it out to the pine log I have & let er eat, seems to have a lot more torque, but the chain was not top shape. I will sharpen the chain and if I think it will do it I'll throw on an 8 pin.
This went pretty easy after following your thread. Thanks

I used the 359 filter holder, it took some time to carefully carve clearence with a sharp knife point for the the choke. Also had to elimenate the mount on the right side to make room for the fuel line and the choke lever but the gap I ground for the lever came out nice & snug so that helps keep everything in place.
I did have to assemble the carb and linkage together as I could not get it hooked to the carb after the carb was bolted on.

I round ground the chain which is one of those new husky chains 2nd sharpen, on an 18'' orange g b bar & took a couple more swipes off the rakers, put an 8 pin on and went to the log.
The saw did not care about an agressive chain & 8 pin, it just went wot and threw chips, I did not have to baby it one bit! :p:D:D

Quick update/bump.

I have a plan on what I want to do with this cylinder…
Im thinking EX:100 TR: 121: IN: 81 curving up to 79
Transfers/ transfer tunnels are getting totally reworked. As of right now, I want to build up some JB weld on the caps and/or jb weld them on permanently. I looked at the transfers the last time it was apart and the tunnels started out nice and smooth but hit a hard flat on the primaries because the caps really limit how deep/ flat I could go.

Another thing…. Those lowers on that 359 look an awful lot like 395 lowers if you think about it…. With the exception of transfer caps/ bottom feed on the 359 of course. Maybe keep the blowdown a little longer, say 20-21* because those transfers aren't as efficient as say a 357, 372 and the like, for example. Those saws it’s literally up through the lowers and out the window and being guided the whole way by the divider.

Thats where my mind takes me anyways…. I very well could be talking out my a$$. Tearing apart stuff is possibly going to happen tomorrow. And I will slap a degree wheel on it to see where everything is at… i believe that cylinder is at 102-121-79 right now??? Again I will consult my notes and confirm my findings with a degree wheel tomorrow.

I do have a ° wheel, but all I have for grinder is a flex drive dremel, so I don't get into any serious grinding.
I do have another 359 that I did grind the dividers out of, also have a 357 with a popup piston, don't remember if I ground in that or not, but I'm sure it's gasket delete & muff mod.
I have another 372 carb, Gonna do the 357 next, hafta get another choke lever tho.
I'm gonna be 82 in Feb., Sometimes don't remember what I've allready done to these saws

I started off with an ol beat up dremel as well. Thats why i liked these 359 cylinders. Pop the caps off and grind away:). Oh I feel you there….. there is probably a hefty amohnt of notes hiding somewhere in the barn of what I tried… have YET to find them….

This is probably my favorite way to measure ports. More accurate and really simple. I did the ex l/ transfers by eye just to see how far off my eyes are. 6C1A9A67-5747-497C-AE6C-05BF299F88A6.jpeg1FE59071-95F7-4DA0-981F-496E36A3BD71.jpeg
