I purchased and original NOS stihl 038 mag piston and cylinder. My question is are the original rings ok to use or should I buy a new set? Would that amount of time break down the metal in any way and also the technology has improved so would a new set be the better option? Thanks for any advice.

I'm guessing they would be fine, after all, tree monkey had 3 nos 044's he ported them. Never knew where they went.

there's been a few other nos saw been sold that Dan had, and there’s been no word on changing rings

I’m sure someone else will chime in ;)

Thank you to the folks that didn’t make me puke. Lol.
The rings will be perfectly fine, inspect for any surface rust from storage under moist conditions
If there is rust, cleaning them up would be ok as long as there’s no pitting?

Nothing like burning the dog poo out of your leg on an upswept dt250 pipe!
