More along the line of the barrel was heavier and the s&w was easier/cheaper for gunsmiths to work on the action. and as memory serves there was a higher probability of accuracy from a python barrel since it was swaged. Whether it really mattered or not is highly debatable in my book.
This is always why S&W came out with similar looking barrels on their guns. But by that time the day of the wheel was dying and the auto was starting it's rise.
