What have others done for muffler mods on these?

On the 084, there are 2 holes and one has a little cover over it directing the outflow at the 2nd rearward exit.
I am thinking about grinding the little cover off and opening the exit hole up, and then braising an @Red97 deflector on the flywheel side for a 2nd port

Thoughts?

Here is another one.

I hate how restrictive the filter cover mount struts are over the intake.

Does anyone know why it has the flat section across the bottom?

I am thinking I might free up the inflow like I did on my 064

Inside the motor looks pristine through the plug hole and exhaust.

That have been running a HD filter with its rubber gasket on the rubber gasket on the saw and looks like it was sucking in a bit of stuff.

Will remove the rubber ring on the saw intake plate.

It blew good compression so should come up nice.

I might even keep the OEM piston and cylinder stock seing as they are in such good shape and get a cross top end to grind on.
Are they any good?

I would port the oem top. Do some reading and talking to those who have ported one of these before and go for it

I have a spare 084 top end that I'm half tempted to trade for a cross performance one, just because I'm curious how they run

Do you boys have any advice?

I've done quite a few 084s. They don't need much. I add a little compression, and let the machine work take some of the exhaust duration away. Take note of the stock transfer height, and let that guide you.

I am really excited about this one.
I am going to clean it up a bit over the weekend and check everything is ok, give it a muffler mod and run it stock on Monday to see how it goes.

Then it's getting torn down for a proper birthday

Gave it a rough cleanup this arvo and tried to start it

No spark

The coil is long and looks like the limited coil that I had on an 064.

Do they take the same coil as an 066?

The flywheel has dual key ways so I figure it is good for limited or unlimited

You can use an 066 coil, but you need to make a bracket to hold it securely due to mounting points. Secondly I had to grind the coil to shape so it had clearance from the flywheel. Works well, especially considering the 084 coil is unobtainium.

Ahhh larger diameter flywheel.... yes.

Did you keep the top mounting point the same?
