Working on maybe a 084 or 088- see pics- but I'm not sure which model it is. The warning sticker on the hand guard says 1994, but that's all I can find.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.088-1.jpg088-2.jpg088-3.jpg

never seen an 084 with the flat top cover so my guess would be 088

It's got a Poly flywheel - Definitely not 084. I would say late 088 based on the stainless steel muffler as the early 088s have the cast aluminum clamp-on style mufflers.

Well the muffler is not original and does not belong to this model. The muffler looks like a MS 880 or 881. If you have 1994 on the sticker, it can`t be a 088, because the 088 came in 1996. So it is likely a 084 with a new muffler that does not belong to this model.

But from the shroud with the carb adjusting holes it looks like 088. Weird, can`t say for sure.

What`s the serial number?

It's definitely not an 084 - The poly flywheel doesn't fit the 084 crank.

I can't help but notice that the muffler is held together by bolts at the bottom and there are empty 084 style mounting bolts on the case. Can there be a possibility of there being an 088 crank in 084 cases with an 088 ignition and covers?

As mentioned before it is a frankensaw. That is a mess. I am far from an expert on those but just from outward appearance it is clearly not what I would classify as a 084. The muffler, decomp and as JJ said flywheel appear to be 088'ish

Poly flywheel, flat top, and muffler supports for cast clamp on muffler-absolutely not 084.

088/880 are basically the same, and I believe some of each came with the cast mufflers. Have a dealer run the serial number and that’ll tell you if 880’s ever came with cast mufflers, but it’s 100% either 088 or 880.
