084 vs 088. Which is better?

Well looking at an IPL after you mentioned part numbers, I notice the 084 IPL shows both the 084 and newer 088 style so they must both fit

older original 084 setup:



Newer 088/880 setup:



I recal trying to fit the 088 system into my 088 but it would jam but I think it may have been missing part number 5 in the lower image.

Awesome mate.
But before I go pilfering your stocks, I will check with the stihl shop.
All I need is part no. 3 off the first ipl diagram and I recon I should be able to get a new 880 sprocket to fit by grinding/filing the oil pump slots myself
