Because the carb and inlet tract are plenty large to supply the air/fuel with that short of duration. Allowing you to maintain more crankcase compression which is always a good deal.

From your experience, whats a good indicator the saw has to much primary?

If you look at the stock numbers I've got 10 more degrees of intake now than It had,not many saws I port gain that much intake.

Shows your intelligence.

When in doubt, don't deviate from the German engineers too much.

The closer you are to mid stroke stock, the more you should gain.

I just looked back through my records and mine started at 96.5/120/70 and ended up at 99.5/124/72
I took the intake down 2 degrees for 99.5/124/74

Center bore, piston moves more distance per degree rotation. So any jug drop should result in less movement the closer the bore is to center.

Doesn't explain J's 10* change.

I got about 3* on my exhaust, 4* on the transfers and 2* on the intake which is fairly normal in my limited experience.

She didn't sound too happy with 8 tooth and that particular log.

I'll have to look at my notes but I believe the intake was 60 stock,I lowered it 060 then I lowered the intake more to 69 or 70
And that's how I got 10 degrees more intake.
I don't think it needs 60 degrees of case compression.

36" bar, Oregon 68LX 404 full chisel full comp fresh off the roll with an 8 pin.

I was putting a lot of load on that rear handle too. It just pulled more wood chips

Well it may be a bit bigger than you want for small jugs but Napa auto parts does sell a pneumatic 90° 1/8 inch tooling grinder that will spin some nice rpm for polishing too

I think it's the 404 chain demanding all the torque it can muster up. I've run ms 880 with 3/8 in hard wood and it was happy with that. Run a 404 and the saw was not so happy especially running a long bar
