044 filter question

OK fellers I'm tuning up an old 044 for a guy and the air filter has seen better days. I want to replace it but it seems there's a million choices. I am not a Stihl guy and I don't work on many of them.

So what's the best filter to run on a firewood saw that will see pretty much all hardwood? Are there any good aftermarket choices? Or should I stick with OEM?

Someone stated here recently that the AM filters were actually a better choice compared to the HD2.
I found it hard to believe, but it is what it is.
I have every imaginable type of 1128 A/F here (except max-flo) but have not tried the AM yet.

I'd try aftermarket if someone has one in particular that they have had good luck with. Otherwise I I'll probably go with the HD2.

I'm not sure which one it is. HLS has 3 of them. I'm guessing it's the white pleated one. @jmssaws

The foam gasket is the main thing I like about it, no fines under the filter

OK thanks for the help. This one has the regular HD filter and I can't see anything that I like about it.

Probably hasn't been cleaned in years but if I get something that can be tapped out he might do it.

Guy said it wouldn't idle. I should've taken a before picture.

Definitely. There's gotta be 4 times the surface area on a pleated one. The yellow ones I have are just a band inside and out

The old HD filter is better than the new to me. They wash out better.

I don't know if this is the old or new but it was loaded with fines. I washed it but I plan to replace it anyway. Just gonna give it back as a spare.
