So, I put the 455 back together with the old plug, fresh mix and a little bar oil. Inside both tanks looked clean/pristine. It popped on the 10 or 12th pull. Grabbed my jacket, went outside and started pulling. It tried to start but would not idle. Went back in for screw driver, 1/4 in on the idle screw and it started and ran on the first pull, like a good saw should. High idle, no bar or chain. Let it run for about 10 minutes total to warm up and remove any water. 7 or 8 minutes at idle with 2 or 3 minutes revving. The smoke cloud cleared up after about 2 or 3 minutes 🤣 Idle and throttle response seem good, conrtols work fine. Made a good puddle of bar oil with high idle RPM, again no bar or chain.

Both sides of the rear handle and the trigger lock are $56.95 shipped USPS from HLS. I will add in a primer bulb, air filter, carb rebuild kit and muffler gasket(obvious leaking). Sprocket is worn, so sprocket/clutch drum also. I'm going to take a chance. Give a good cleaning when the parts arrive. Will try to remeber to post pics. ***Many thanks for the help and advise***

And why is Husky using Allen head bolts(exhaust)? I think even my ECHO's uses Torx head, if I rember correctly. Also, even the 455's air filter looks to be original with a 2012 date casting. Never replaced, doubt ever cleaned.
🙁

One of my niece's and her husband heat with wood. I think he is a Husky guy with only one saw. If after a trial run the 455 seems good I will spin a couple of extra loops of chain and give it to him. Maybe the saw will hold up and get some use. Thanks all

Husky's have been using Allen bolts for a while, I just picked up a few more today for my 2100. Unfortunately the store didn't have any M6 100s long enough for the exhaust or a M5 80 for the chain catcher, will probably have to order those. I like the Allen bolts, my McCulloch D44 has flathead screws, I am thinking of changing them out to the black Allen bolts, I think the yellow saw with black highlights will look cool!

Glad you got your saw running, sometimes they surprise you. I look forward to seeing how it looks once you get it all fixed up!

Glad you got it going.
Pop off the clutch drum and grease the bearing. It probably needs it badly.
Fix it up as planned and post a picture when you are done!

That Mastermind guy is a hack.
...but a good hack, I still use that(along with my 550xpg) to cut firewood, it does the bigger log work good.
It always starts and always runs the same every time. Having something that can be relied on is sometimes more important when trying to get a job done, vs attempting to do it a few seconds faster, lugging a great big saw around. For me it's less work.

I have a 357XP that I feel that way about Steve. It ain't for sale. Starts and runs perfectly, plenty of power, and fits me like a glove.

Nice rig. have a nice 359G that needs built with a 357xp top end, might be it could be the one, or have to share duty when my hands are cold?

Nothing wrong with a 359 top end when ported well. Big gains to be made.

@two4spooky before you buy a bunch of new parts for that saw, let me check when I get home next week for a parts saw 455 I might have. It will be a complete saw just blown top end I am sure. It will be cheaper than all the parts you might need to make that look nice if that’s what you are going for now that it’s running.

Steve, I have a 550 MK2 build by a guy from the North Woods of WI, I belive he goes by @Stump Shot, after 5 years of use, dead reliable, starts every time.

Randy mentiomed his 357, I also have a 357 build by someone from TN, she too is dead reliable, starts each time. She has a very unique WOT tune, music to my ears. This someone goes by @Mastermind, I could never find out what formula was used, presuming it had to be that fine TN whiskey.

Gents, both saws sharing your sentiment, not for sale.

Both saws exceptional builds.

So during half time, one week into it, this evening I carried the Husky 455 outside. A little free time to see if the 455 still ran. Choosing between an axe rehandle job I have been fooling with and the 455 Rancher waiting for parts. My free "tinker time" is found in the evenings. A few parts for the Husky 455 Rancher have been delivered this week by Amazon.

So the 455; choke on, three pulls and "POP", two more(choke in) and we are running. 7 or 8 minutes at idle and blipping the throttle, all good. Off and on, several restarts, choke, start/stop, oiling and throttle responce: all seem good. I think I'm going to see if this 455 Rancher is worth the effort. I will give it a try.

Bar dressed, several chains ready. Cleaning 🙁 started. Saw is nasty. Really nasty. I will get it straight.

Bearings, especially the PTO side, are still are a concern. The saw had been sitting PTO side down, starter side up in the friend's truck bed with water ingress. IDK, I have a few trees needing to be dropped and bucked(time allowing) to see if the saw is functional and runs good before I give it to my neice/neice's husband. Regardless, many thanks to all
